After the show, Ian was personable enough to stick around and to autograph anything that people wanted signed. He asked while signing, "I'm not going to see any of this for sale on Ebay am I?" People chuckled. I got his autograph on "Workin' On the Railroad," and "I Can't Drive," with the 1958 Rock 'n' Roll Show. While he was signing some old Mott The Hoople vinyl Ian said there is a lot of old vinyl out tonight.

I was about the last person to have things signed and I said `Here's an old vinyl for you; what story or anecdote can you tell me about it that no one knows?' At first he couldn't really see it because the light was bad so I told him what the 45 single was and he said this is a really old one. He said well you know it was written by Freddie "Fingers" Lee and he didn't make any money on it but it was recorded by Tom Jones and he had a big hit with it, he made money.

I asked him if he had actually recorded anything with the Apex Group and he said I don't think so but they did some recordings. Colin York was the real driver of that effort and they recorded in the John Lever Record store. York and Ian exchange Christmas cards and that sort of thing but they parted a long time ago was his point.

He said the early days were interesting because they toured all over and he said the French couldn't play their records and they didn't really care for Mott anyway. He said that's probably why they tried so hard and were really into playing to stir up the French crowd. Someone else had "Diary of a Rock and Roll Star" and he was relating that it has been translated into 16 languages including French. His point was that the French don't like us and they don't play other nation's music. Ian gave the example of Johnny Halladay who just recorded rock hits by other artists and made a great deal of money doing so. I agreed with the point, the French, the Canadians and others limit music from other countries in their nation.

I asked if he planned to play bass like he did on "Workin'" and "Drive" and he reminded me that he did play a bit of bass at the reunion gig in 2009.

Then, Ian said something unexpected. He said it was a great deal of fun in those days, "more fun than Mott The Hoople." I thought the more fun early days was because Ian was under a great deal of pressure to write hits and it was a grind during the Mott tours.

I told him when I first saw them, at the Hollywood Palladium, in September 1973, just after Ariel Bender (actually Luther Grosvenor) had joined the band two days previously. Mick Ralphs didn't really give them any warning and he said Luther was right there and ready to go. He jumped right in and he was good on stage. It got him thinking about the maniacal types in rock.

He said lots of rockers were like that. Keith Moon rang him up in L.A. and Ian said he was mortified. He didn't know what to say, it was Moonie after all. Ian said he didn't say a word because he was too intimidated. I said it was probably like meeting Bob Dylan after all and he said, yeah, it was like that. He continued that there are many figures like that in rock like Moonie. He was reserved until the lights went on or if there were cameras on. He said, another guy like that was Sly Stone, a really reserved guy unless the cameras went on and he just went crazy.

I asked him if he'd like to know some local rock and pop trivia and he said sure. I told him that Jim Croce was buried nearby because he's from this area. Ian reminisced that now there's a guy who died and sold a lot of records. That's not the way to do it.

I asked him which type is he. Is he a crazy type or is he the more laid back kind? He said he'll keep playing and writing as long as he can. I certainly hope so; there is no one like him around.

I had a pleasant chat with the keyboard player, Andy Burton, and Paul Page, on bass (Dion), from the Rant Band before the show. I ran into them across the street from the Colonial just finishing their pizza. Both have side projects going on but talk highly of Ian and working with him. Recently, on "All-American Alien Boy," the bass player has been coming out towards the front of stage which he has not done previously. He told me how he worked hard at honoring the memory of a great player, Jaco Pastorious, but he has also added his own parts and bass playing to the piece. He struggled with forming his approach which is a a balance of playing like Paco but also adding his own personality to it. He waited anxiously to hear Ian's reaction once he worked out his bit and said it was just right. Ian had ideas for each of the band members and how to play what he had in mind. It is how the band has a basic repertoire but they keep adding things to keep it fresh.

He had come off working with John Cale, as James Mastro had as well, but he and Steve Holley go way back and Steve was instrumental in getting him into the band.

These are really down-to-earth people and both Paul and Andy consider themselves fans as well. Paul came out after the show and he remembered my name and asked if I enjoyed the show, I replied that the audience was better than at the City Winery in NYC.

King Opens Third Committee on Homeland Security Hearing on Radicalization, Focusing on al Shabaab

Washington, D.C. (Wednesday, July 27, 2011) – This morning, U.S. Rep. Peter T. King (R-NY), Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, convenes the hearing entitled “Al Shabaab: Recruitment and Radicalization within the Muslim American Community and the Threat to the Homeland.” The prepared opening statement of Chairman King follows:


“Good morning. Today, we hold the third in a series of hearings on radicalization in the Muslim-American community.

Our focus is the result of a lengthy investigation the Committee has conducted into the threat the U.S. homeland faces from al-Shabaab, the Somalia affiliate of Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda and Anwar al-Aulaqi’s al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).

The Committee has been briefed by intelligence agencies and we have interviewed dozens of experts on al-Shabaab.

I welcome our distinguished panel of witnesses. They have some of the most extensive insights into the problems uncovered by our Committee’s investigation and we are grateful they are sharing their knowledge.

You will hear how al-Shabaab, who bin Laden called “One of the most important armies” of Islam, is engaged in an ongoing, successful effort to recruit and radicalize dozens of Muslim-American jihadis, who pose a direct threat to the U.S.

Some argue that al-Shabaab is only a Somali problem, and that the group will never strike outside of the Horn of Africa region.

That kind of thinking is a glaring example of what the 9/11 Commission called a failure of imagination.

With al-Shabaab’s large cadre of American jihadis and unquestionable ties to al-Qaeda, particularly its alliance with AQAP, we must face the reality that al-Shabaab is a growing threat to our homeland.

Our investigation into this threat has led to alarming findings: Notably, that al-Shabaab has successfully recruited and radicalized more than 40 Muslim-Americans and 20 Canadians, who have joined the terror group inside Somalia.

Of those, at least 15 Americans and 3 Canadians are believed to have been killed fighting with al-Shabaab, the Committee has learned.

Not al-Qaeda, nor any of its other affiliates, have come close to drawing so many Muslim-Americans and Westerners to jihad.

Three Muslim-Americans became suicide bombers, such as Shirwa Ahmed from Minneapolis -- the first confirmed American suicide bomber in our history.

There also are radicalized converts like al-Shabaab commander Omar Hammami who was raised a Baptist in Alabama, and who has repeatedly threatened the U.S. homeland.

Three American al-Shabaab fighters have been arrested after returning home and one was collared in the Netherlands.

Other radicalized Muslims have been arrested in the U.S. and Canada before they reached Somalia, which is now much easier to get to for jihad than Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan or Yemen.

But as many as two-dozen Muslim-Americans with al-Shabaab -- who in many cases were trained by top al-Qaeda leaders -- remain unaccounted for.

The Committee found that al-Shabaab-related federal prosecutions for funding, recruiting and attempting to join al-Shabaab are the largest number and most significant upward trend in homegrown terror cases filed by the Justice Department over the past two years.

At least 38 cases have been unsealed since 2009 in Minnesota, Ohio, California, New Jersey, New York, Illinois, Missouri, Alabama, Virginia and Texas.

Al-Shabaab is recruiting inside American mosques in Somali communities like Minneapolis and San Diego, according to the Justice Department.

This month, an al-Shabaab recruiter pleaded guilty to recruiting a large group of Muslims in Minneapolis, “At mosques,” and without any known protest by mosque leaders. A top al-Shabaab leader in Somalia supervised this recruiting.

One Minnesotan recruited was suicide bomber Shirwa Ahmed whose 2008 attack in northern Somalia sent a shockwave of alarm through U.S. homeland security agencies, because of its implications.

Another would-be bomber from Minneapolis was shot and killed in Mogadishu by peacekeeping troops on May 30, moments before detonating his suicide vest.

When one cleric spoke out against al-Shabaab inside the Minneapolis mosque where many of the missing young Somali-American men had once worshipped, he was physically assaulted, according to police.

For those still skeptical that there are still jihadi sympathizers inside that community, it’s worth mentioning that the Committee learned of the mosque assault when an audiotape of the incident was posted on overseas jihadi Internet forums before authorities in Minneapolis even knew about the incident.

There is an enormous amount of travel by Somali-Americans between U.S. cities and East Africa. While most of this travel is legitimate senior U.S. counterterror officials have told the Committee they are very concerned about individuals they have not identified who have fallen in with al-Shabaab during trips to Somalia, who could return to the U.S. undetected.

They fear an al-Shabaab fighter operating under law enforcement’s radar – someone like a Zazi, a Shahzad, an Abdulmutallab – may attempt an attack here.

It is deeply troubling that from the very beginning, the Muslim-Americans in Somalia were trained by top al-Qaeda operatives, including several who were tied to Yemen’s al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), which is now generally considered our biggest homeland threat.

Al-Shabaab operative Ahmed Abdulkadir Warsame was charged this month for doing weapons deals and explosives training with AQAP in Yemen, and to, “Provide AQAP with material support including... personnel.”

Al-Shabaab has long harbored top al-Qaeda leaders, such as the mastermind of the 1998 U.S. embassy bombings in East Africa, who was gunned down this month in Somalia after a 13-year manhunt.

Al-Shabaab has paraded in Somalia in support of AQAP and sent fighters to battle the weakened Yemeni government this year -- as well as flying the battle flag of al-Qaeda-in-IRAQ.

Finally, an al-Shabaab bombing in neighboring Uganda one year ago that targeted Westerners killed 74 people including one American.

President Obama’s Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, has said the Administration remains, quote, “Vigilant that al-Shabaab may expand its focus from fighting to control Somalia to plotting to attack the U.S. homeland.”

That convinced me of the necessity to launch a careful examination of that threat.

Dozens of experts the Committee interviewed agreed this threat is real, and that al-Shabaab leaders’ public calls for attacks against America -- including in retaliation for killing bin Laden -- must be taken seriously.

With a large group of Muslim-Americans willing to die as “martyrs,” and a strong operational partnership with al-Qaeda leaders in Pakistan and in Yemen, al-Shabaab now has more capability than ever to strike the U.S. homeland.

We look forwarding to hearing more about the rising al-Shabaab threat from our exceptional witnesses, as well as the Minority’s distinguished witness.

Finally, I note that certain elements of the politically correct media—most egregiously the vacuous ideologues at the New York Times—are shamelessly attempting to exploit the horrific tragedy in Norway to cause me to refocus these hearings away from Muslim-American radicalization.

If they had even a semblance of intellectual honesty the Times and the others would know and admit that there is no equivalency in the threat to our homeland from a deranged gunman and the international terror apparatus of al-Qaeda and its affiliates who are recruiting people in this country and have murdered thousands of Americans in their jihad attacks.

Let me make this clear to the New York Times and their acolytes in the politically correct, moral equivalency media--I will not back down from holding these hearings. I will continue to hold these hearings so long as I am the Chairman of this Committee.

Apart from all the strategic and moral reasons why these hearings are vital to our security, they are liberating and empowering to the many Muslim-Americans who have been intimidated by leaders in their own communities and are now able to come forward.

I also owe it to all the friends, neighbors, and constituents I lost on September 11th. I will not back down.”

At the town hall parents did not want religion being taught to their children.

The Council of America Islamic Relations (CAIR) says it presented
the Puyallup School District with a request to teach young students about Islam and the Muslim religion as a way to ease fears and educate students. However, the district says they have not received such a request.

At a town hall meeting on Tuesday night, the parents' message was clear: they don't want religion being taught in public schools.

"Muslims are welcome here, but if you're going to be here, you get in line and become American first," said parent Lisa Hedger.

Hedger said as a parent, she doesn't want any part of the Muslim religion taught in her daughter's public school.

"And I actually told her teacher she was not going to write this," she said.

The mother said religion has a time and place, and school is not it.

"How did you feel Sunday, on 9/11? I spent the whole day in tears, and its been 10 years. And I didn't think I'd feel that way," she said.

CAIR made a request to the Puyallup School District for special accommodations for Muslim children during Ramadan and other holidays. The group also wants to come into schools and speak to children and teach them about Islam.

"We've seen a rise in bullying against Muslim students, and so our goal (is) with some education, with the right accommodation, students will be safer in their schools," said Gennifer Gist of CAIR.

More victimhood propaganda nonsense. This is absolute hooey.

But that safety is being questioned by many, including members of Pierce County ACT! For America, an organization dedicated to concerned citizens and parents who feel CAIR has ulterior motives.

"For America's sake, we don't think that it's fair that Islam gets a pass and the other religions don't, but also because CAIR is a front for the Muslim brotherhood," said group member Kerry Hooks. "We have a real problem with organizations with ties to terrorism that come into the public schools."

Most of the parents who attended the town hall meeting agreed on keeping religion out of school and want classrooms focused on education.

The race was supposed to be an easy win for Democrats, who have a 3-1 ratio registration advantage in the district. Bob Turner, a 70-year-old Catholic, vowed to push back on Obama's policies if elected. Weprin is an observant Jew and Orthodox Jews, who tend to be conservative on social issues, expressed anger over Weprin's vote in the state Assembly to legalize gay marriage. In July, New York became one of six states to recognize same-sex nuptials.

Last week, Oskar Freysinger, a member of the Swiss Parliament delivered a rousing speech in Germany, warning the German people and all of Europe about Islam’s slow-motion takeover. Freysinger’s political party, the SVP, seems to parallel the values espoused by America’s Tea Party. The Party has been described thusly:

The SVP adheres to national conservatism, aiming at the preservation of Switzerland’s political sovereignty and a conservative society. Furthermore, the party promotes the principle of individual responsibility and is skeptical toward any expansion of governmental services. This stance is most evident in the rejection of an accession of Switzerland to the European Union, the rejection of military involvement abroad, and the rejection of increases in government spending on social welfare and education.

Berlin is worth a trip. Especially today. Especially here. Because here and now an important signal is being given to the peoples of Europe. The signal for a European Spring! To offset the autumn mood in the EU. So that, instead of the mood of doom, finally a mood of awakening will come. An awakening in the name of freedom!

Yes, yes, cherished FREIHEIT! That is also the name of the party here in Germany that offers an alternative to bureaucratism, centralism, loss of democracy, uncontrolled immigration and Islamization. An alternative to self-destruction.
My dear Berlin friends, I come to you today as a neighbor. And as a concerned friend.
Since I am a citizen of a small country which is put under greater and greater pressure by the EU, it is near to my heart to support the truly democratic forces in the EU conglomerate. Only if these forces prevail can I hope that the Great Power pretensions of the EU will be abandoned and its relationship to Switzerland will at last be shaped in the way it should be between civilized and respectful neighbors.
Freedom is one of the democratic forces I count on. But why does the EU exert this kind of massive pressure — economically, financially and politically — on my country? Is it arrogance? Greed? Envy? All of those may apply, but the true reason lies deeper.
The EUSSR will no longer tolerate the existence of a small country in the heart of the continent, whose people still want to decide their own fate. A prudent, little bit of a folk that has thus far withstood the over-indebtedness which is playing hell with the states reined in by globalization.
For that is the goal of all global financial institutions and international monetary funds: The weakening of nation-states in order to lead them to their dubious “good fortune.” The wealth of peoples is destroyed en masse, so that the weakened states can be reduced to willing agents of a global dogma.
We Swiss hate every form of paternalism! We want no patronizing, no foreign judges! Our citizens are independent and imaginative enough to take their fate into their own hands.
Just picture this: On the southern border of Germany is a country in which 53% of the people have voted for deportation of criminal aliens; a land in which every minor rise in the VAT must be approved by referendum. Who is surprised that the VAT is still at 8% in Switzerland while it has reached 20% in the EU?
A study by the French economic expert Yvan Blot demonstrates that where state
affairs are voted on directly and democratically, the rates of duties and taxes are on average 30% lower than where state affairs are decided exclusively on administrative and policy grounds.
We watch our own wallets more carefully than other people’s money. There lies the future of the continent. Not in further expansion of a bureaucratic and centralized monster that will one day swallow its own children.
In Switzerland, the power is still in the hands of the people. We Helvetians were able to vote on entry to the EU… and wisely looked the other way. In retrospect, this decision has proven to be a great good fortune.
How did that work in Germany? Elites distanced from the people decided for the people. The same elite who introduced the euro, which, at one blow, caused a 30% loss of purchasing power for the average German citizen.
In Switzerland, the possible introduction of the euro had to be approved by the people. You can just picture the result.
Of course, the strong Franc would then be no problem for our export economy, but we would be stuck in the euro trap like the others and would have to bleed financially for a completely broken-down statist system, just as the German taxpayer has been doing for years. Better to stay flexible and economically independent.
Direct democracy means that the optional or obligatory referendum underlies every law proposed by parliament, and nothing can be decided over the heads of the people. Direct democracy means that determined citizens can launch initiatives with 100,000 signatures, which must be put before the people. This gives political decisions much greater legitimacy than the usual parliamentary resolutions. No one in Switzerland would think of questioning a decision by referendum which was approved by 50-70%. What the people have decided is valid and everyone has to adhere to that, Period. Even the administration. Especially the administration.
That is how it was with the famous/notorious anti-minaret initiative in which I was the anti-muezzin. 58% of the Swiss population decided in November, 2009 to prevent the occupation of public space by the dominating symbols of a religious dogma.
This decision by the last free population in Europe had a signal effect. In its wake, decisions were made about the veiling of women in France and Belgium and the construction of a Saudi-financed giant mosque in Norway was prevented. The dhimmi attitude of Europeans sustained a wound which must not heal over, if the millennia-old European civilization is to survive.
For Europe is more than a plot of land, more than a continent, more than the sum of its countries. Europe is an idea, a cultural landscape, an intellectual space shaped by history. Europa is the cradle of the modern constitutional state, the treasure-house of human rights, of freedom of opinion and expression.
This is ever more strongly endangered by the possibility that our political elite will bend their necks before a religious dogma that is alien to our intellectual history, our values and our constitutional state.
This dogma is gnawing away at the pillars of our system of laws, wherever it is allowed some space. This dogma demands total obedience from its followers. They are in no case to integrate into our value system. That would be like treason and can even be punished with death. They are expected to conquer our intellectual home, make the Western world subject. Not with tanks, rockets or riflemen. Not through brutal revolution.
No, Islam is in no hurry. It has an eternity.
A long process of softening up and leisurely occupation of our weakening, child-poor society is foreseen. The Islamic doctrine is expected to gradually creep into everyday life and Fortress Europe will crumble from within. Just think of how the Serbs lost Kosovo. Through demographic development and the help of NATO, which brought about the founding of the first Islamic state on European ground. What an ominous sign.
The Islamic dogma is succeeding everywhere. In Turkey, the Islamists are gradually occupying all judicial and army posts, in order to obliterate the heritage of Kemal Atatürk. Lebanon will become an Islamic state in the next decades, The Arab Spring is on the point of being taken over by the Islamists. In Iraq, in Egypt and in Pakistan, the last Christian communities are facing extinction,
And what are we doing? We are allowing this violent doctrine, unhindered in cultural ghettos, to strain at toppling the nation of laws. We just shrug our shoulders when girls are forced into marriage and Muslims willing to integrate are pressured and threatened. When women are beaten and whole city districts are taken over, we look the other way. We believe we can soften the power hunger of the holy warriors with welfare money.
We believe we can buy peace! What lunacy! No one fingers the Prophet’s beard. Fanatics cannot be bought. Germany should know that better than any other country in the world.
My dear friends in the audience, we are not fighting against people, we are fighting for people! We are fighting against a dogma that is anathema to every aspect of humanity and would like to lead us back into barbarism. We do not intend to give up the freedom we have fought so hard for over the centuries.
Dear Berliners, here I stand, and I cannot do otherwise, lest soon no human being in this Europe will be able to take the responsibility for what represents the pillar of our culture, of our system of law and of our humanity: transcendent, unconditional love of neighbor.
If we lose this battle, there will be no second chance, for Islam does not give back what it has conquered. So I summon all the humanists of this continent not to keep their heads in the sand and to resist the Islamic dogma’s drive to conquest. Let us stand together and uncompromisingly insist upon the primacy of our civil law over any religious dogma. Let us find our way back to our precious intellectual heritage.
Islam is only as strong as we are weak.
Let us oppose it with more than McDonald’s, soap operas, stupefying TV programs and brutal video games. Our culture has so much more to offer. Let us get back to depth and endurance, to organic growth. Let us stay alert and critical, so long as even a grain of Socrates lives on in us. Let us no longer subject our spirit to the dictates of the material. Only that way can we prevent brutal power politics being spread in the name of religion. Only that way do we have chance to leave our children a peaceful Europe, shaped by respect and dignity.

During a segment on Fox News Friday, Beamer said that while the recordings serve as a reminder of 9/11, Americans need to know who the enemy is. He added that the public cannot forget because it is reminded daily of the threats present, and by being on heightened alert at all times.

Beamer, who believes the nation is doing its best to ready itself to combat and prevent another terror event said he doesn’t think the public is doing a good job defending itself against the “tactic of infiltration” being used by our enemy — militant Islamists, and Muslims who sympathize with the perpetrators of the September 11 attacks. “They don’t want us to salute …the stars and stripes…they want us to salute the flag of Islam,” Beamer said.

Beamer believes the American public is “in denial” about what “their tactic of infiltration will do to our republic.”

It appears that the group removed are from the EDL, a right-wing group which to be fair can be considered hooligan-like and previous clashes have occurred with local opposition and other opponents have led to street violence, anti-social behaviour, and arrests. However, from at least what appears on the tape in question, they were engaged in peaceful, simple, non-violent discourse and free speech. Yet, they were removed in light of the Muslims Against the Crusades protest against honoring the dead on 9/11. The group of English Defence League protesters were ordered to move on to accommodate the anti-American demonstration.

The 60-strong EDL group briefly scuffled with police as they were forced away from their original location to a different part of Grosvenor Square. Twenty people were arrested for breach of the peace as the group was dispersed towards Oxford Street. And at least four more arrests were made as police escorted the Muslim group back towards the Central London Mosque in Regents Park.

I mean a terrorist act against civilians as compared to Mumbai, London, Lisbon, et.al. I understand your point though. There are acts committed in war against civilians and in the past they were, and are, horrific. Today, we have horrific acts against civilians and the changing nature of warfare: a Major in the Army at Ft. Hood, attacks on military recruiting centers: actions within our midst.

Do we have a GWOT (Global War on Terror), or an Overseas Contingency Operation, or a kinetic action? Our leaders are so mystified they can't even agree on what to call it, a worldwide violent movement, within and from without our borders. If you can not define a thing, nor define your enemy, you will never have a strategy to defeat it. Ten years later, three sort of declared wars later, and we still have an elusive, undefined enemy which our leadership can not identify, nor is seemingly able to find.

Yet, in one of the most extensive surveys ever done on American Muslims, the Pew Research Center found 21% of the respondents reported a "Great deal/Fair Amount" of support for extremism within their mosque. Can any of us waltz into our churches and say that about one of every five persons within their congregation advocates religiously motivated violence? These numbers would hearken us back to the days of the Ku Klux Klan and lynchings; and yet, silence on the part of our leaders.

Islamist Statistics: Arrests from Small Muslim Community

The threat to the United States has grown exponentially in ten years. A report from the Department of Justice in March of 2010 showed that of 228 terror-related arrests 186 of them were Muslim. That is over 80 percent from a Muslim community that represents less than 2 percent of the U.S. population.

What this report does not tell us is that of the 186 Muslim arrests almost certainly all of them were Muslims that believed in and adhered to an Islamist ideology. Since this report we have seen upwards of another 28 terror-related arrests of Muslims including the likes of Faisal Shahzad -- the Times Square bomber -- and Pvt. Naser Abdo who was preparing a second attack on Fort Hood who both claimed to be "Muslim soldiers" fighting for the ummah (Muslim nation).

This is the audio of Ronnie Bryant at a public meeting in Birmingham on July 20, 2011. The recording was made on my iPad just to have a record of correct quotes, so the audio quality is poor since it wasn't intended for broadcast purposes.

“If they want to create jobs, provide health insurance, and increase revenue,” Bryant said in reference to the federal government, “they need to back down on the regulatory burden. It’s like pulling an iron ball with a chain. I’m not saying to make it go away—just the stuff that’s not pertinent or useful.”

Terry Douglas, who owns two mines in Jasper with Bryant, said it costs them about $250,000 per mine in permit fees alone and that paperwork and regulatory inspections are a constant presence (as well as an additional revenue strain). When asked about typical concerns surrounding coal mining—including companies skirting health and safety regulations—Douglas said it “doesn’t make sense” to let safety lapse and risk losing miners to illness or injury when it would only cost more to train new personnel.

“We take care of our equipment and take care of our people,” Douglas said. “The regulations make coal miners out to be criminals; but we’re not outlaws. Coal mining is an art. I have a civil engineering degree; Ronnie has a mining engineering degree. It’s not wildcat whiskey we’re making; this is drinking whiskey we got.”

Bryant pointed to less stringent environmental regulations in countries such as China, saying that the U.S. is falling behind even though it has abundant resources. “But you can’t get to them,” he said, adding that while there are concerns over dwindling wildlife populations, “people are becoming the endangered species.”

Gwendolyn Keyes Fleming, regional administrator for EPA’s Southeast Region, attended the Birmingham public hearing but could not be reached for comment.

“Nearly every day without fail…men stream to these [mining] operations looking for work in Walker County. They can’t pay their mortgage. They can’t pay their car note. They can’t feed their families. They don’t have health insurance. And as I stand here today, I just…you know…what’s the use? I got a permit to open up an underground coal mine that would employ probably 125 people. They’d be paid wages from $50,000 to $150,000 a year. We would consume probably $50 million to $60 million in consumables a year, putting more men to work. And my only idea today is to go home. What’s the use? I see these guys—I see them with tears in their eyes—looking for work. And if there’s so much opposition to these guys making a living, I feel like there’s no need in me putting out the effort to provide work for them. So…basically what I’ve decided is not to open the mine. I’m just quitting. Thank you.”

Analysis of the Republican Primary Debate

The lamestream media is boring. The questions and tone were dismissive and discouraged interaction. Gingrich called the media out:

How many times can you ask about Iraq (as if Afghanistan and Libya haven't happened)? Immigration "reform," and all the candidates answered how many times that they are against the Dream Act, yet, the Telemundo guy kept asking, "just a follow-up" to promote his view, education, these and other favored leftist causes. Did the commentators realize they were talking to Republicans? How about the dolt who asked, `What does it indicate that the audience clapped when asked about the [severe in Texas] death penalty?' He wants to imply the audience is made up of barbarians; the fact of the matter is that people overwhelmingly favor a severe application of the death penalty, regardless of how anyone else feels about it. Why don't these commentators know that?

The leftist media is promoting Romney and Perry, nominating them as they did last night, front and center. This is for two main reasons; they favor Romney because they see him as `presidential' meaning he has the looks (since Kennedy, Kerry, Obummer, et. al.), a primary leftist criteria during the nomination process. Romney is obviously an empty suit, like Obummer, so the left can deal with him; likewise, the left media likes Perry because then you can have conflict among Republicans, just as Gingrich called them out on.

Then, you place Bachmann, who the left dismisses, on one side, and then Paul, on the other, because he is provocative. These two foils will highlight the imagined conflict between Republicans, the TEA party perspective, and the libertarian, respectively. The others are dismissed completely. Cain can not be taken seriously because the left wing media can not understand an intelligent, articulate African-American business man who belongs to the TEA party. In the leftist perspective, Cain is a throwback to the racists of the past as in Black Like Me by John Howard Griffin. Huntsmann is another empty suit and a progressive Republican, also looking presidential, but he has polled so poorly he is insignificant. Gingrich of course is a committed ideologue and the left does not want to take him seriously, and Sanctorum fits in that category as well. Thus, the further away from the impression the left would like viewers to have, promoted candidate--Romney--and conflict ridden--Perry, you are going to get short shrift. The left does not encourage debate and discussion and it is little wonder that the debaters appeared to have little to offer or anything new.

The silent candidate is the news media itself. The media wants to leave a viewer with the impression that the Republican challengers to the Obummer have nothing interesting to say, offer, or have any solutions to the severe problems facing our country. The media is the critical factor in the presentation of ideas. The debate, if you can call it that, confirms Marshall McLuhan, "The Medium is the Message."

The genuine battle is the difficulty of presenting fairly complex principles and ideas in the medium of television. The ones with ideas and principles are Sanctorum, Gingrich, Bachmann, Paul, and Cain. Respectively, voters will choose between them depending on their inclinations. The more Romney talks the dumber he sounds: he's an Obama clone. Of the principled group, Bachmann is the only credible candidate in terms of electability, although she is going to be Palinized relentlessly in the lamestream media; Paul is certainly a principled individual but his age will work against him, age discrimination is acceptable in the media and too big a factor for him to overcome (progressive Republican McCain suffered the same fate). Paul's primary effort is simply based on his libertarian ideals which attract many people to his cause once they hear him. Note how MSNBC rigged the Post-debate poll results to suppress the popularity and appeal of Paul:

At this point the primary will be between Bachmann, who will be hounded relentlessly and tarnished repeatedly and so will appear "dirty" and suspect, which, if you think about it, is ironic since she is such a squeaky clean candidate she is almost a Canadian. On the other hand, Republicans will look towards the stealth candidate Perry, who has flip-flopped before on issues dear to those who maintain rightist or conservative principles, introduced an Islamic curriculum in Texas, and could really be suspect; and yet, he will be portrayed in the media as enough of a challenger to Obummer, pitting the Texan Bush-sound alike against the media hero, Obummer. Perry is enough of a compromise that Republicans, progressive and conservative could vote for him; at the same time, progressives could hold their noses and still work with him if he won in 2012.

Its a Bachmann vote if you actually think a dedicated and competent person is worthwhile; its a Perry vote if you figure this is about the best that can be expected out of the Republican party. Perry is going to have the lamestream media promoting him so the media can sell the Bush-like challenger vs. our Anointed One spin.

SHANKSVILLE — As the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks approaches, a video shot just minutes after the crash of United Airlines Flight 93 has surfaced.
While the video does not show the moment of impact, it clearly shows a mushroom cloud rising from the site of the crash at an abandoned strip mine near Shanksville.


The voice of Berlin resident Dave Berkebile, now deceased, can be heard speaking calmly in the background.
“This is the remains of an airplane crash over on Lambertsville Road,” he said. “Probably a terrorist bomb on board that blew up.”
Berkebile said the crash “shook the heck out of the house … A great, big, black cloud just mushroomed right up into the air.”
Then he added: “I wonder if there is anything left of Lambertsville.”
Donna Glessner, who is collecting oral histories for the National Park Service, saw the video and said she believes it is the earliest known video of the crash.

The mayor of Quartzsite, Ariz., the town seething in vitriol since police forcibly removed a woman from speaking at a public meeting despite the mayor's objections lost in a recall election last night, but claims the "corrupt" town council fixed the results to force him out.

Mayor Ed Foster of Quartzsite, Ariz., says his town is filled with massive corruption among government officials.

"They found a whole bunch of early ballots they could stuff the box with," said Mayor Ed Foster, telling WND the election was "absolutely" stolen.

Foster says at the polling place, he was winning by a 2-to-1 margin over former Town Councilman and Quartzsite Fire Department Capt. Jose Lizarraga.

But there had been 328 early ballots cast, and 208 of those went to Lizarraga, giving the win to Lizarraga by a final tally of 289 votes to 230.

"There's no doubt about it [being a fixed election]," said Foster. "The early voting was so obscenely different. ... Whether people voted early or late should not have affected the weight of the vote."

But the outcome is not deterring Foster from continuing his fight against alleged corruption in his rural town. In fact, he plans on running again for mayor, as primaries are slated for March, and a general election in May.

"They stole it from me. I'm gonna take it back," he said.
