Obama uses executive power to move gun control agenda forward
Obama issued a memorandum requiring all nine federal law enforcement agencies to submit guns they confiscate to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for tracing.
In January, Obama directed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to begin studying the causes of gun violence for the first time since Congress, at the behest of the NRA, began blocking funding for such research in 1996.
In another administrative move, Obama directed the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to examine the efficacy of existing gun trigger locks and firearm safe standards to determine if they need to be improved.
Separately, the administration has given $1 million to the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) to create, produce and distribute a nationwide multimedia ad campaign on safe gun ownership and storage.
And regional offices with the General Services Administration have begun to reach out to local schools, advising them about the agency’s “Cooperative Purchasing” program, which gives discounted rates to schools on security equipment including: surveillance cameras, emergency communication systems, security design and support, and employee background check systems.

Since when has it become the parent’s job to raise children? I am sure they had good intentions but they need to leave it up to our public education system and social services counselors. They are trained in this matter. The problem is when untrained parents with good intentions end up confusing the child over who is accountable for their development: The untrained parent or the well trained and educated teachers and social services counselors! It’s no wonder she is rebelling! If parents got out of the way, test scores would improve! The problem is that parents don’t know what they don’t know.
Parents are seriously impeding the development of our nation’s youth through instilling beliefs and myths that organized religion passes off as truth. Does it not make sense that the message be consistent and unified through a single source rather than the confusion of multiple belief systems? This is what the future will hold if we continue down the road of greedy capitalism and religious myth.
Parents acting as selfish and arrogant individuals are undermining the power of collective education which is consistent and instills the superior value of the unselfish collective people! In other words, it is not about you! Its about the people! We must work as one mind, hand in hand, arm in arm as a unified people and purge society of greedy individualists that have resulted in today’s corrupt & broken society!

White House Dispossesses Israel of Territory Ahead of Visit
The map of the Middle East displayed in an Obama administration video released days before Obama’s visit to Israel shows the Jewish state dispossessed of substantial parts of its current territory, including its capital.
The map of Israel, displayed repeatedly during the video, shows the Golan Heights, Jerusalem, northern Israel, and areas surrounding what is currently the West Bank as non-Israeli territory. The Golan Heights is shown as part of Syria; Jerusalem is shown as part of the West Bank; and northern Israel is shown as part of Lebanon.
The itinerary on the White House website also implies that Jerusalem is neither Israel’s capital nor even part of Israel.
The president’s schedule lists two stops in “Tel Aviv, Israel” and one in “Amman, Jordan” but his activities in Israel’s capital city are identified as taking place only in “Jerusalem” — with no country name attached. This keeps with a reluctantly-acknowledged administration policy of denying that Jerusalem is Israel’s capital or even a part of Israel.

One of our afternoon panelists commented that sometimes people tend to posit a simplistic victim-oppressor analysis. We examine the past and determine who has been victimized and who is oppressed. Some educators perform this exercise in the case of Egypt, and the Middle East generally: i.e., Mubarak, bad, what he is replaced with, good. This analysis suggests that if the Muslim Brotherhood replaces Mubarak this could be a good thing. But as I consider covering the Caliphate in my World History classes I am reminded of what is stated in, God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything by Christopher Hitchens.
Hitchens states that the Koran is a rehash of Jewish and Christian myths. Islam, with no Reformation, and no internal self-critical tradition, is the least adjusted world religion to the obvious contradictions of living in the modern world with a pre-modern mindset. Any historical example to critically examine the claims of Islam has resulted in repression (p. 125). The accounts of Muhammad (d. 632) "are hopelessly corrupted into incoherence by self-interest, rumor, and illiteracy" (p. 127). "The first full account of his life was set down a full hundred and twenty years later by Ibn Ishaq, whose original was lost and can only be consulted through its reworked form, authored by Ibn Hisham, who died in 834" (p. 129). In addition, there is no way of determining how the competing accounts and traditions were collated and edited to form the text of the Koran. We are left with conjecture and hearsay as to the actual message of Muhammad.
The chaotic manner in which the Koran was assembled gave rise to the more pressing issue of succession, a controversy characterizing Islam and one in which Muslims have never solved. Continuously Islam has strenuously opposed critical examination of the Koranic text. The apparent unity of Islam masks a great insecurity and anxiety about the text not shared by other religious traditions (p. 126). "But Islam when examined is not much more a rather obvious and ill-arranged set of of plagiarisms, helping itself from earlier books and traditions as occasion appeared to require" (p. 129). With its lack of originality Islam nonetheless demands obeisance from non-believers yet "there is nothing--absolutely nothing--in its teachings that can begin to justify such arrogance and presumption" (p. 129).
The primary issue of a critical and scholarly account of Islam based on the Koran requires a similar willingness, as Jews and Christians have allowed and benefited from, to examine the Scriptural claims to objective, scholarly examination. The consensus of religious obscurantism though has precluded "free inquiry and the emancipating consequences that it might bring" (p. 137).
Meanwhile, rogues, terrorists, mullahs, and misguided Islamists predominate and prey unmolested upon unwary victims.
CATHOLIC GRANDMOTHER ASSAULTED WHILE PRAYING OUTSIDE PLANNED PARENTHOOD
A 63-year-old Catholic grandmother says she was attacked and knocked to the ground while filming outside a Planned Parenthood clinic in Wilmington, Del. last week.
Rae Stabosz regularly prays outside the clinic. On Wednesday afternoon, when she and another woman were getting ready to leave for the day, an ambulance pulled up to the front of the building. Stabosz took out her iPhone and began to film, at which point she said a woman came out of the Planned Parenthood and demanded she stop taping.
“She came out of Planned Parenthood and she was very angry,” Stabosz said. “[She said] ‘I’m going to mess you up so f–king bad.”
Stabosz said it was about 10 minutes later when the woman returned and assaulted her on the sidewalk as the paramedics prepared to roll out with a patient on a stretcher.
In the video, the woman walks out of the Planned Parenthood just ahead of the paramedics and heads directly toward Staboszs while on the phone. The audio is difficult to hear, but the woman appears to say, “I’ll call you in an hour when I’m in jail.”
“I believe this person may be trying to — ” Staboszs says before she’s abruptly cut off as the woman slaps the running iPhone out of her hand. The phone clatters to the ground and the woman appears to stomp on it. There are sounds of a scuffle and Staboszs yells. The woman is heard saying, “Get the f–k away.”
“She barreled into me, grabbed my phone and threw it down on the ground and started to stomp on it. I thought if she gets one clear shot at this she’s going to crush my phone and destroy it,” Staboszs said. “She picked the phone up, put it in her pocket and [went inside and] gave it to the Planned Parenthood person.”
Stabosz said she got up and went into the clinic — something anti-abortion protesters are usually prohibited from doing — and demanded her phone back from the receptionist. The receptionist handed it over, at which point Staboszs went back outside and called 911 to report the assault.

Federal Government Decreases Oil Production by 7%
The Congressional Research Service, recently released a report, "U.S. Crude Oil and Natural Gas Production in Federal and Non-Federal Areas." (Report will be embedded below the post)
In that report is a little nugget which shows the increase in oil and natural gas production has occurred on non-federal land and production on federal land has, in fact, decreased.

"All of the increase (in oil and natural gas production) from FY2007 to FY2012 took place on non-federal lands, and the federal share of total U.S. crude oil production fell by about seven percentage points," writes Marc Humphries, the government specialist in energy policy who authored the report.Another point made in the 13 page report:
During this period, oil production on federal land fell from nearly 1.7 million barrels a day to 1.6 million. At the same time, the share of overall production on federal lands shriveled from 33% to 26%.
The difference is found in offshore production. Onshore production actually increased modestly from 2007 to 2012, but offshore dropped from 1.4 million barrels a day to 1.3 million.
The story is similar with gas. Production on federal land decreased from 5.5 trillion cubic feet to 3.7 trillion cubic feet. The federal share collapsed from 27.8% to 15.5% of the total. In the case of gas, both onshore and offshore output on federal land have fallen, with offshore tumbling 50%.
Meanwhile, private output booms. Oil production on non-federal land grew from 3.4 million barrels a day to 4.6 million and gas rose from 14.4 trillion cubic feet to 20.2 trillion.
• When comparing fiscal year 2010 with 2007, growthin the federal share of production was about 82% of the total. On federal lands, there was an increase in production from FY2008-FY2009 and another increase in FY2010, but then declinesin FY2011 and FY2012, which brought production below FY2007 production levels.
The conclusion from the report:
There are substantial oil and natural gas reserves and resource potential in federal areas, many of which are already accessible. Production from these areas will likely continue to make a significant contribution to the U.S. energy supply picture, but any rise in production, as projected by the EIA, will be outpaced by faster rising production in non-federal areas. A more efficient permitting process may be an added incentive for the industry to invest in developing federal resources, which may allow for some oil and gas to come on stream sooner, but in general, the regulatory framework for developing resources on federal lands will likely remain more involved and time-consuming than that on private landThe report suggests an area that Congress should address:
Another major issue that the 113 th Congress may seek to address is streamlining the processing of applications for permits to drill (APDs). Some members contend that this would be one way to help boost energy production on federal lands.

The Ian Hunter Acoustic Trio will be touring Italy and the UK starting in March 2013. More than a dozen dates have been announced. For the tour, Ian will be joined by guitarist Andy York (Ian’s producer and guitarist for John Mellencamp) and bass player David Roe (Johnny Cash).
A different song has debuted on the tour, "Cry, Cry, Cry" which has not been released.
The original Sun Records song is by Johnny Cash.
