Within a short time of the death of Saddam I managed to view both the censored CNN video version and the unauthorized video apparently shot by a shaky-handed guard on YouTube. Using PalTalk IM, I checked the reported Arabic translations of the event with a Kurd living in Sweden for the past twenty years. It seems as if the reported words of both Saddam and the witnesses to his execution were telling each other to go to hell. I could check the reported versions of the event for its accuracy and had more sources of information at my disposal.
This is an amazing access to information and events that is without historical precedent. Imagine if we had had the final moments of Hitler in the bunker, or Caesar as Brutus did him in. The mind reels from this unprecedented access to historical events.
