State House members introduce bills to derail Common Core

n June 28th, four PA State House representatives held a press conference to introduce five new pieces of legislation that directly affect the implementation of Common Core standards in Pennsylvania.  Read about it here and here.

While the necessary legislative and regulatory approval of these standards has been postponed, the possibility remains that implementation of these standards could take place in the 2013-14 school year.

The following bills have been introduced:

HB 1551 - Legislation to repeal the State Board of Education Pennsylvania Common Core Standards. (Rep. Tallman)

HB 1552 - Exempting private, religious and home-schools from Common Core Standards (Rep. Bloom)

HB 1553 - National Standardized Assessments and Surveys (Rep. Kauffman)

HB 1554 – Prohibition of individual student data transfer to the Federal Government (Rep. Lawrence)

HB 1555 – Advisory Committee to conduct a study of Common Core Standards prior to any implementation (Rep. Tallman)

Thank The Lawmakers Who Are Fighting Common Core in PA

From our friends at Freedom Works: "The education menace that is Common Core must be reined in. And thanks to State Representatives John Lawrence, Stephen Bloom, Rob Kauffman, and Will Tallman, Pennsylvania is one step closer to taking back control of our schools. The series of bills they introduced will protect Pennsylvanian children from the worse aspects of Common Core – including the prohibition of federal data gathering and exempting private schools from imposed standards."

Thank these Representatives for fighting to keep Common Core out of your schools. They are leading in the fight for educational freedom.

Religious Liberty: Contraceptives Forced On Religions in Obamacare

The United States Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit, in Denver, said Thursday that the owners of Hobby Lobby, a craft store chain that describes itself as “a faith-based company,” could pursue their case against the rule.

Eric C. Rassbach, a deputy general counsel of the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, which has represented plaintiffs in that case and others challenging the law, said the final rule did nothing to meet the objections of his clients.

The President lectured Obama on Gay rights: “We are still not ready to decriminalize homosexuality,” Senegalese President Macky Sall stated, while insisting that the country is “very tolerant” and needs more time to digest the issue without pressure. “This does not mean we are homophobic.”

38 African countries criminalize homosexuality. In four of those — Mauritania, northern Nigeria, southern Somalia and Sudan – the punishment is death.

Copperhead Trailer

"Copperhead" is unlike any Civil War movie to date. It is a film of the war at home—of a family ripped apart by war, of fathers set against sons and daughters, of a community driven to an appalling act of vengeance against a man who insists on exercising his right to free speech during wartime. A story of the violent passions and burning feuds that set ablaze the homefront during the Civil War, Copperhead the movie is also a timeless and deeply moving examination of the price of dissent, the place of the individual amidst the hysteria of wartime, and the awful cost of war—a cost measured not in dollars but in fractured families, broken loves, and men dead before their time.

Based on the extraordinary novel by Harold Frederic, which the great American critic Edmund Wilson praised as a brave and singular book that "differs fundamentally from any other Civil War fiction," Copperhead is the story of Abner Beech, a stubborn and righteous farmer of Upstate New York, who defies his neighbors and his government in the bloody and contentious autumn of 1862.

Copperhead is the great untold Civil War story. Far from the Virginia battlefields whose names etch our history, the war of Copperhead visits the devastation and unimaginable loss of a civil war upon a family and a community whose strength and very existence are tested by fire, rope, knife, and betrayal. This is the Civil War come home.

With "Copperhead", director Ron Maxwell, who with Gettysburg and Gods and Generals established himself as our foremost cinematic interpreter of the American Civil War, takes on the War from a stunning and unexpected and richly, unforgettably humanist angle.

NSA Flix: Netflix for Private Information

Court Infringes Upon Religious Freedom with Gay Marriage Decision

One key statement by the Court notes: 'DOMA singles out [a] class of persons deemed by [the] State entitled to recognition and protection to enhance their own liberty'...

You have to accept the class struggle premise of the decision to agree with the ruling.

"On an issue as sensitive as this, knowing that Americans hold a wide range of views based on deeply held beliefs, maintaining our nation’s commitment to religious freedom is also vital. How religious institutions define and consecrate marriage has always been up to those institutions. Nothing about this decision – which applies only to civil marriages – changes that."

Religious freedom is impinged upon with this legal re-definition of marriage and Obama is not daft; he knows this is a blow against centuries-old Judeo-Christian ideas. Even the promiscuous Greeks and Romans would not have been so foolhardy as to disparage a central social institution such as a marriage between a man and a woman.

‘REAL NEWS FROM THE BLAZE:’ PROPAGANDA U.S.A.?

‘REAL NEWS FROM THE BLAZE:’ PROPAGANDA U.S.A.?

The latest defense authorization bill passed Friday afternoon in the House without much attention until Michael Hastings over at Buzzfeed noticed something out of the ordinary in the procedural legislation: an amendement that would overturn the Smith-Mundt Act of 1948 and Foreign Relations Authorization Act in 1987; legislation that protects U.S. audiences from our own government’s propaganda and misinformation campaigns. The authors of the bill, Texas Republican Rep. Mac Thornberry and Washington Democrat Rep. Adam Smith say that in this age of social media our government needs to be flexible in combating, for example, Al Qaeda’s propaganda that lands on U.S. shores and in front of U.S. citizens via the internet. Critics contend that with the repeal of this legislation whatever administration is in power would now be enabled to disseminate false and biased information to American citizens.
The “Real News” panel opened Monday examining the possible implications of this amendment, as well as the historical context of the Smith-Mundt Act and Foreign Relations Authorization Act in 1987.
The Blaze’s National Security Editor Buck Sexton commented that propaganda during the majority of the 20th Century consisted of U.S. military operations abroad, but with the many forms of instant communication today, such misinformation becomes assessable to anyone with an internet connection. Andrew Wilkow feared that it is difficult to identify how far government participation in propaganda could go, with S.E. Cupp adding that propaganda could make our efforts to spread democracy to foreign cultures seem disingenuous.

Should the government engage in propaganda against its citizens? Why or why not?

Obama Fried Chicken

A recently released music video for "Popular Demand" by the Clipse featured the awning of the Obama Fried Chicken joint in Brownsville, Brooklyn. But in comparing versions of the video airing on MTV and elsewhere, it looks like the TV channel completely erased the restaurant's name from the awning in the video's opening shot.

Back in April, City Councilman Charles Barron led a protest outside the location with citizens "outraged by [the] racist connection to Barack Obama and fried chicken."

The restaurant manager fired back and said it was a tribute to the president, noting four out of five customers support the name.

Black Reporter Dragged Away

Brenda Lee, from the Georgia Informer, dragged away by security.

"I said, 'I'll take my chances if (the president) comes by here,'" said Lee, who identified herself as a Roman Catholic priestess who lives in Anaheim, Calif. "He became annoyed that I wouldn't give him the letter."

Lee, who was wearing what she described as a cassock, said she protested when she was asked to leave.

"I said, 'Why are you bothering me?' They escorted me outside the gate," she said.

She said security officers allowed her to return when she promised she would not yell or wave, but then other officers arrived and told her to leave.

"I said, 'I'm not leaving,'" she said. "They tried to drag me out."

Two officers then picked her up and carried her out. An Associated Press photographer photographed the incident.

"I was afraid you could see under my clothes," she said, her voice choking up.

The Big Mistake

This video, produced by EPA enforcement attorneys speaking on their own personal behalf, explains why cap-and-trade, while applicable for acid rain, will not work for climate change. It explains why a fee-and-dividend approach is more appropriate and will benefit the environment and the economy. Economists call this the "double dividend."

The video is divided into three sections.

1. The Big Lie which is that cap-and-trade will work for climate change. The reality is that cap-and-trade works great for acid rain, but would not work for climate change.

2. The Big Rip-Off which discusses how carbon offsets make things even worse because they can be easily gamed and because all the money will flow to the cheapest offsets.

3. The real solution which discusses fee-and-rebate which provides a double benefit, helping both the environment and economy.

•In Oklahoma, recovery.gov lists more than $19 million in spending -- and 15 jobs created -- in yet more congressional districts that don't exist.
•In Iowa, it shows $10.6 million spent and 39 jobs created -- in nonexistent districts.
•In Connecticut's 42nd district (which also does not exist), the Web site claims 25 jobs created with zero stimulus dollars.
•The list of spending and job creation in fictional congressional districts extends to U.S. territories as well.
•$68.3 million spent and 72.2 million spent in the 1st congressional district of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
•$8.4 million spent and 40.3 jobs created in the 99th congressional district of the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Talking Points Against Health Care Rationing

Our task is to reduce public support for the bill by publicizing its provisions, notably:

1. The $400 billion cut in Medicare

2. The inevitable scarcity that will result from the addition of 35 million new patients with no new doctors or nurses

3. The fine on the uninsured of 2.5 percent of their income if they don’t buy insurance

4. The high cost of these mandatory insurance policies ($15,000 per family)

5. The low level of subsidy available for the uninsured (only after they pay 8-12 percent of their incomes)

6. The likelihood of a $1,700 increase in the average family’s premiums

7. The possibility of up to five years in prison for failing to buy insurance or pay the fine

8. The taxation of medical devices like pacemakers, wheelchairs, prosthetic limbs, hearing aids, etc.

9. The tax on sick people (increasing the threshold for deducting medical expenses from 7.5 percent to 10 percent of income

10. The additional fiscal burden on the states of the increase in Medicaid eligibility

11. The 40 percent tax on health insurance premiums that will affect households earning more than $75,000 by the fifth year of the plan.

Artificial Scarcity: Flu Vaccine

During a recent Council on Foreign Relations meeting, Andrew Jack, Pharmaceutical Correspondent for the Financial Times, conceded that “the anti-vaccine movement is having a field day on the internet” and that the CFR, via its many members which occupy prominent positions in the establishment media, should conspire to counter negative information about the swine flu vaccine.

At around the same time, Sir Liam Donaldson, the Chief Medical Officer in England, described people who express doubts about the swine flu vaccine as “extremists”.

During another part of the discussion on whether or not the vaccine should be made mandatory for health workers and school children, Lone Simonsen, Research Professor and Research Director at the Department of Global Health, George Washington University, suggests creating an artificial scarcity in order to ramp up demand for the vaccine.

“I think what would work better would be to say that there was a shortage and people tend to buy more of something that’s in demand. (Laughter.) We saw that — there was one season where, really, people lined up all night to get a flu shot.” Simonsen says, much to the amusement of the other attendees at the symposium.

Endless stories about shortages in supply, allied with footage of members of the public queuing for hours to receive the vaccine, have created a contrived sense of scarcity, similar to how toy companies manufacture a stampede for a particular item before Christmas by floating stories about something being low in stock.

CNBC – Dollar Will be Utterly Destroyed, Global Currency, New World Order

Monday, November 9, 2009

The dollar will get “utterly destroyed” and become “virtually worthless”, said Damon Vickers, chief investment officer of Nine Points Capital Partners. Due to the huge wage disparities between the United States and emerging markets like China, Vickers said that may resolve itself in some type of a global currency crisis.

“If the global currency crisis unfolds, then inevitably you get an alignment of a global world government. A new global currency and a new world order, so we may be moving towards that,” he said.

The health care rationing bill unveiled by Pelosi is over 1,900 pages and buried in such a monstrosity are niches for favored special groups. For example, a bone was thrown to the trial lawyers (page 1431-1433 of the bill):

Section 2531, entitled “Medical Liability Alternatives,” establishes an incentive program for states to adopt and implement alternatives to medical liability litigation. [But]…… a state is not eligible for the incentive payments if that state puts a law on the books that limits attorneys’ fees or imposes caps on damages.

Thus, you can not try to seek alternatives to lawsuits if you’ve actually done something to implement alternatives to lawsuits. The trial lawyers stand to rake in a great deal of money from this provision.

Lay Effort Begins for U.S. Religious Liberty

Catholics for Freedom of Religion organizes to preserve a fundamental American tradition.

Ian Hunter, From the Knees of My Heart

This 4CD box contains 62 tracks including Ian Hunter's renowned Chrysalis albums "You're Never Alone With A Schizophrenic", "Short Back 'n' Sides" and "Welcome To The Club" plus an unissued CD - "Ian Hunter Rocks" - and various rare songs, studio outtakes and previously unreleased cuts.

Disc 1 - You're Never Alone With a Schizophrenic

BONUS TRACKS: Don't Let Go (Demo Version) / The Other Side Of Life (Outtake) / *Ships (Early Version) / When The Daylight Comes (Early Version) / *Just Another Night (Version #3) / **The Outsider (Early Version) / **Alibi

The bonus tracks match the 30th Anniversary edition of "You're Never Alone With a Schizophrenic", with a few exceptions: *songs were originally only available with the download version of YNAWAS. **songs are previously unreleased. - two bonus tracks from the 30th Anniversary Edition are missing: "Just Another Night" (Early Version) and "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On". The second live disc is also missing.

Disc 2 - Welcome To The Club

The track listing match the 1994 "Welcome To The Club" 2CD set with a few exceptions: - "Sons And Daughters", "We Gotta Get Out Of Here", "Silver Needles" and "Man O' War" are found on Disc 4 on this set (Ian Hunter Rocks) - three tracks from the 1994 2CD edition are are missing: "When The Daylight Comes", "Medley: Once Bitten Twice Shy/Bastard/Cleveland Rocks", plus the original mix of "We Gotta Get Out Of Here".

Disc 3 - Short Back n' Sides

Disc 4 - Ian Hunter Rocks

The "Ian Hunter Rocks" CD is a live concert from the Dr. Pepper Music Festival at Pier 81 in New York City on 11 Sep 1981, previously only available on VHS. The last four songs on the CD are the studio cuts from the "Welcome To The Club live album. The alternate version of "We Gotta Get Out Of Here" is a remix that starts with a drum stick count off which is missing from the original version.

I think the alternate version of We Got To Get Out Of Here is simply a remix, though there is so much more detail it's hard to tell for certain. Oddly, both versions run exactly 3:14, but the new version starts with a drum stick count off & the original does not.

Anti-Catholic Obama Calls for End to Roman Catholic Education

Obama Calls for End to Catholic Education in Northern Ireland

“If towns remain divided,” stated the anti-Catholic, “if Catholics have their schools and buildings and Protestants have theirs, if we can’t see ourselves in one another and fear or resentment are allowed to harden—that too encourages division and discourages cooperation.”

No word is forthcoming whether Obama will be calling for an end to Islamist madrassas.

The American Catholics for Religious Freedom fired back on Obama’s words to 2,000 young people at the G8 Summit, stating, “President Obama’s anti-faith, secular agenda was shamefully on full display yesterday when he told the young people of Northern Ireland that Catholic education and other faith-based schools were divisive and an obstacle to peace. All Americans of faith should be outraged by these comments which clearly telegraph the President’s belief system and are in fact at their core even anti-American.”

Immigration Bill According to the CBO: American wages will fall for 12 years, immigration bill aids investors, not wage earners

WASHINGTON, June 20--Speaking on the Senate floor this week, Ranking Member Sessions highlighted the Congressional Budget Office's new estimate of the fiscal and economic impact of the Gang of Eight immigration bill. The CBO report plainly stated: "Taking into account all of [the] flows of new immigrants, CBO and JCT expect that a greater number of immigrants with lower skills than with higher skills would be added to the workforce, slightly pushing down the average wage for the labor force as a whole... However, CBO and JCT expect that currently unauthorized workers who would obtain legal status under S. 744 would see an increase in their average wages... [An] increase in the average wage would not occur for a dozen years."

Sessions reacted: "This is supposed to be good for the people we represent? ... This will add to [our] problems, this report says, quite clearly—unequivocally. It's going to increase unemployment and it's going to pull down wages. That is exactly the wrong thing that ought to be happening at this time. How in the world can we justify passing a bill that hammers the American working man and woman that's out trying to feed a family?"

CBO says immigration bill aids investors, not wage earners
