CBS reporters caught on tape hoping for violence against Republican candidate. Mistaken voicemail also reveals news team plotted to ‘find’ a ‘child molester’ at politician’s rally
New meaning for the term spin; CBS reporters plan attack pieces.
Reporters from a CBS affiliate in Anchorage, Alaska, allegedly left a voicemail by mistake at the campaign of the state’s Republican nominee for Senate, Joe Miller, in which the journalists can be heard plotting to “find” a “child molester” at the politician’s recent rally.
The reporters also are overheard hoping for violence against Miller so they can “send out a tweet” and Facebook alert that “Miller got punched” at the rally.
The apparent accidental voicemail message was left on the cell phone of Miller’s spokesperson, Randy DeSoto.
In the recording, the assignment editor for the CBS Anchorage affiliate, KTVA, Nick McDermott, along with other reporters, can be heard openly discussing concocting the two stories about Miller.
DeSoto says the voicemail message was later authenticated by McDermott himself, who sent a text to the Miller spokesman stating “Damn iPhone … I left you a long message. I thought I hung up. Sorry.”
“Frankly, when I first heard this I was shocked,” said DeSoto. “Though a bit garbled at times, there are disturbing comments in this conservation that never should have occurred.”
According to the Miller campaign, another voice in the message was that of KTVA’s news director.
McDermott and other KTVA news staff did not immediately return a WND request for comment.
In the first portion of the discussion, the CBS reporters are heard plotting to get a list of Miller campaign supporters in order to “find” a “child molester.”
“You have to find that one person,” says the male reporter, seemingly McDermott, to laughter in the news room.
The KTVA reporters then discuss creating a “Rand Paul” incident at a Miller rally, which was actually held this past Thursday, hoping for violence so that they can “send out a tweet” and “Facebook” that “Miller got punched” at the rally.
A full transcript of the conversation relates:
FEMALE REPORTER: That’s up to you because you’re the expert, but that’s what I would
do…I’d wait until you see who showed up because that indicates we already know
something…
[Laughter]
[INAUDIBLE]
FEMALE REPORTER: Child molesters…
MALE REPORTER: Oh yeah… can you repeat Joe Miller’s…uh… list of people, campaign
workers, which one’s the molester?
[INAUDIBLE]
FEMALE VOICE: We know that out of all the people that will show up tonight, at least one of
them will be a registered sex offender.
[Laughter]
MALE REPORTER: You have to find that one person…
[INAUDIBLE]
FEMALE REPORTER: And the one thing we can do is ….we won’t know….we won’t know but
if there is any sort of chaos whatsoever we can put out a twitter/facebook alert: saying what
the… ‘Hey Joe Miller punched at rally.’
FEMALE REPORTER: Kinda like Rand Paul…I like that.
[Laughter]
FEMALE REPORTER: That’s a good one.
Yusuf Islam aka Cat Stevens in 1989 Advocating the Death of Salman Rushdie for the Satanic Verses
http://pajamasmedia.com/eddriscoll/2010/10/30/video-riding-the-peace-train/
On February 21, 1989, Yusuf Islam addressed students at Kingston University in London about his conversion to Islam and was asked about the controversy in the Muslim world and the fatwa calling for Salman Rushdie’s execution. He replied, “He must be killed. The Qur’an makes it clear – if someone defames the prophet, then he must die.”
Newspapers quickly denounced what was seen as Yusuf Islam’s support for the assassination of Rushdie and the next day Yusuf released a statement saying that he was not personally encouraging anybody to be a vigilante, and that he was only stating that blasphemy is a capital offense according to the Qur’an.
However on March 8, 1989, while speaking in London’s Regents Park Mosque, Yusuf Islam was asked by a Christian Science Monitor reporter how he would “cope with the idea of killing a writer for writing a book.” He is reported to have replied:
In Islam there is a line between let’s say freedom and the line which is then transgressed into immorality and irresponsibility and I think as far as this writer is concerned, unfortunately, he has been irresponsible with his freedom of speech. Salman Rushdie or indeed any writer who abuses the prophet, or indeed any prophet, under Islamic law, the sentence for that is actually death. It’s got to be seen as a deterrent, so that other people should not commit the same mistake again.
Two months later Yusuf Islam appeared on a British television program, BBC’s Hypotheticals, an occasional broadcast which featured a panel of notable guests to explore a hypothetical situation with moral, ethical and/or political dilemmas. In the episode, (“A Satanic Scenario”) Stevens/Islam is recorded having this exchange with moderator and Queens Counsel Geoffrey Robertson:
Robertson: You don’t think that this man deserves to die?
Y. Islam: Who, Salman Rushdie?
Robertson: Yes.
Y. Islam: Yes, yes.
Robertson: And do you have a duty to be his executioner?
Y. Islam: Uh, no, not necessarily, unless we were in an Islamic state and I was ordered by a judge or by the authority to carry out such an act – perhaps, yes.
[Some minutes later, Robertson on the subject of a protest where an effigy of the author is to be burned]
Robertson: Would you be part of that protest, Yusuf Islam, would you go to a demonstration where you knew that an effigy was going to be burned?
Y. Islam: I would have hoped that it’d be the real thing
The New York Times also reports this statement from the program: [If Rushdie turned up at my doorstep looking for help] I might ring somebody who might do more damage to him than he would like. I’d try to phone the Ayatollah Khomeini and tell him exactly where this man is.
Obama Heckled by Young Democrats at Fund Raiser

The liberal news source "Democracy Now" reported: "It’s almost beyond the capacity of the mind to cope with that George Bush seemingly was more engaged in the battle against HIV than Barack Obama," according to Stephen Lewis, the former special envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa and co-founder of AIDS-Free World.
CNN reported in July "That Republican president Bush was a bigger advocate on AIDS than "liberal" Obama may come as a surprise, but many people around the world are starting to notice the discrepancy."
The hecklers were concerned about Global Aids funding. And in order to quiet them down Obama responds with what the other side wants and plans to do, stating thate we are funding global AIDs relief and the other side is not. Bush was credited for huge contributions to fighting AIDS in Africa going back to 2003. The Washington Post noted that he had tripled funding by 2006. The AP lauded Bush's efforts in this regard. The British newspaper the Telegraph called him “an African hero. The BBC suggested Bush may have been the Africa's best friend. Scientific studies showed the Bush initiated program had reduced the mortality rate by 10%, amounting to hundreds of thousands of lives worldwide.
By contrast, there has recently been criticism of the Obama regime for flat-funding of the same programs. This is not to suggest that Obama doesn't care about the problem or even that cutting back on some funding might not be a good idea at some point. But Obama stated at this rally, that Republicans haven't been engaged on the issue or that they are the ones who should be protested for lack of attention to it, is not in accordance with the facts.

Obama Ballot: 2 November
This is a screen shot of an ad; Obama is not running but it certainly is a mandate against him if his candidates lose on 2 November. The Democrats certainly seem to think so or they would not be running this ad.

10 smart robots you can talk with online
Bot Morpheus had too much of a delay in responding and it was hard to talk to.
Bell can be amusing for a few moments. It provides basic responses.
Jenny was mostly worthless. If you ask in long and meaningful sentences, as suggested, it tells you to look it up. If you ask something short it does not know what to say.
Shakespeare didn't work at all; I tried three times.
Santa has an obvious use for children and it does offer, for purchase, your own bot. I suppose its Santa too but it did not state that clearly.
By the time I got to Eliza the bots are looking pretty much like one another. They are all built to the same specs and say the same boring things.
http://www.jabberwacky.com/ says the same answers as http://demo.vhost.pandorabots.com/. It can be very frustrating.
Marc is about the same. It just has a different format.
Splotchy has voice capabilities so at least it is a bit different.
Wordle: Cloud Generator
Wordle is easy to use.
VocabGrabber – is a tool that may be more useful in a classroom (http://www.visualthesaurus.com/vocabgrabber/). While it lacks the flashy pictures and clouds that Wordle can create, it has substance in creating lessons that can be used to really understand a word passage. VocabGrabber analyzes text and generates lists of the most useful vocabulary words then displays how those words are used in context. Copy text from a document and paste it into the box, and click Grab Vocabulary! VocabGrabber will automatically create a list of vocabulary from the text, which can be sorted, filtered, and saved. Click on any word in the cloud and a snapshot of the Visual Thesaurus map appears along with definitions for that word, and examples of the word in the text. The trial version is limited but a lesson can be created easily. Subjects include academic areas of interest (Arts & Literature, Science, and Social Studies), names of historical figures and places (People and Geography), and words that are of particular importance for language learners at all levels (Vocabulary).
Wordsift has a handy feature in that you can drag a picture into the text you paste.
