California Man Jailed Four Days for Recording Cops
Daniel J. Saulmon was charged with resisting, delaying and obstructing an officer but the video shows he was standing well out the way of a traffic stop and was only arrested when he failed to produce identification to an approaching officer. And there is no law in California that requires citizens to produce identification. And even if there was, it would require the officer to have a reasonable suspicion that he was committing a crime.

Koran: Beat Your Wife, Qur'an 4:34
"Men are the managers of the affairs of women for that God has preferred in bounty one of them over another, and for that they have expended of their property. Righteous women are therefore obedient, guarding the secret for God's guarding. And those you fear may be rebellious admonish; banish them to their couches, and beat them. If they then obey you, look not for any way against them; God is All-high, All-great." -- Qur'an 4:34
The directive to "beat them" is not an allowance at all, but a straightforward, matter-of-fact command. And the words وَاضْرِبُوهُنَّ, wa dariboohunna, do not just mean "and chastise them." They mean "and beat them," and that or a variant of that is how they are uniformly translated:

Al-Hilali/Khan: “(and last) beat them (lightly, if it is useful)”
Shakir: “and beat them”

Aisha reports that Muhammad struck her. Once he went out at night after he thought she was asleep, and she followed him surreptitiously. Muhammad saw her, and, as Aisha recounts: “He struck me on the chest which caused me pain, and then said: Did you think that Allah and His Apostle would deal unjustly with you?” (Sahih Muslim 2127) Aisha herself said it: “I have not seen any woman suffering as much as the believing women.” (Sahih Bukhari 7.72.715)
Laleh Bakhtiar, in a recent translation that has received wide publicity, translates it as “go away from them.” In light of this unanimity among the translators, both Muslim and non-Muslim, this seems difficult to sustain – all of these authorities got the passage wrong until Bakhtiar? But her impulse is understandable, as many Muslims today regard this verse with acute embarrassment. Muhammad Asad adduces numerous traditions in which Muhammad “forbade the beating of any woman,” concluding that wife-beating is “barely permissible, and should preferably be avoided.”
Unfortunately, however, this is not a unanimous view. The Koran commentary Ruhul Ma’ani reflects mainstream Muslim understandings of this verse when it gives four reasons that a man may beat his wife: “if she refuses to beautify herself for him,” if she refuses sex when he asks for it, if she refuses to pray or perform ritual ablutions, and “if she goes out of the house without a valid excuse.”
Also, Muhammad’s example is normative for Muslims, since he is an “excellent example of conduct” (Koran 33:21) – and according to a canonical hadith, Muhammad’s favorite wife, his child bride Aisha, reports that Muhammad struck her. On June 15, 1750, during a fierce summer storm, Benjamin Franklin reportedly flew his famous kite and successfully extracted sparks from a cloud. Consequently he deduced that lightning was electrical in nature. He went on to invent the lightning rod. “Would not these pointed Rods probably draw the Electrical Fire silently out of a Cloud before it came nigh enough to strike,” he theorized, “and thereby secure us from that most sudden and terrible Mischief!” In the end he did exactly that, and planted rods by the University of Pennsylvania and Independence Hall.
Franklin’s electrical experiments are probably the first thing any child learns about him in school, but of course he was so much more than just a kite enthusiast. His unending curiosity about the world around him, and relentless drive to hypothesize, experiment, and discover are all trademarks of an independent mind. He lived life wishing to see things how they were, not how others insisted they were. It is no surprise that he concluded monarchy was an inferior system to republicanism, and so became one of the most brilliant minds campaigning for American independence.
His fame and charisma attracted international attention to the cause, and it was Franklin that eventually persuaded the French to provide financial and military assistance to the Continental Army. A decade later, he was a delegate to the Constitutional Convention. In fact, he is the only Founding Father to have signed the Declaration of Independence, the treaty of alliance with France, the Treaty of Paris that ended the Revolution, and the Constitution. He was gifted not only with intellect, but the energy to always be at the center of events. He is undoubtedly a founding father of America.

In a press briefing Thursday, IDF Intelligence Officer Colonel Miri Eisen screened video imagery of a staged Palestinian funeral photographed by an Israeli drone flying over Jenin on Monday, April 28. Pallbearers repeatedly tried to carry a green blanket wrapped around a man who pretended to be dead, but kept falling out of the blanket. The funeral took place between the area that was destroyed in the Jenin refugee camp and the nearby cemetery.
The Palestinians, Col. Eisen said, sought “to show as many casualties as possible were buried inside Jenin. They tried to falsify evidence in preparation for the committee by executing a fake [funeral] ceremony, carrying the ‘body’ and filming the entire process.”
The film was screened to foreign reporters and later shown on Israeli television, causing considerable amusement among the TV commentators and journalists, since the “corpse” kept tumbling out of the blanket. “One time he falls off the stretcher when he is already in a crowd,” Col. Eisen narrated. “When he came back to life in the middle of the crowd (at approximately 1:35 in the clip), the crowd breaks up because they didn’t know that it wasn’t really a corpse.” Israel Radio reported that many reporters laughed at the point in the tape that the “corpse” seemed to “rise from the dead,” causing the people around him to flee in terror.

The Center for Security Policy (CSP) and questions on “Benghazigate.”
1) Can the attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi be disassociated from the larger failure of American policy towards Libya and the region that has involved engaging Islamists, including the Muslim Brotherhood and even individuals and organizations known to be associated with al Qaeda? For example, hasn’t the U.S. government entered into a relationship with Libya Shield, which fought under the black flag of al Qaeda during the “February 17th revolution.” Libya Shield is led by Wissam bin Hamid, who official sources have identified as a jihadist and veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, and possibly the leader of al Qaeda in Libya. Yet, this man met with U.S. diplomats on September 9, voiced his support for MB candidate running for PM in Libya and threatened to withdraw security from US if the candidate he said the US backed won. Who authorized this meeting and this relationship? The same should be asked about February 17th Martyrs Brigade, from which Ansar al Sharia is said to have spun off.
2) Were jihad, anti-infidel, pro-shariah factors taken into consideration in formulating U.S. policy on Libya and the so-called Arab Spring more generally? Why not? How would such factors have shaped the policy differently?
3) Who came up with the idea of blaming an anti-Mohammed video for the attack in Benghazi when it was clear from Day 1 at State and the Tripoli CIA station and by Day 3 at the FBI (after it interviewed survivors) that there was no protest, period?
4) Who coordinated the dissemination of this false narrative, notably to the President, UN Ambassador Susan Rice, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, CIA Director Petraeus and White House spokesman Jay Carney?
5) Who drafted the President’s September 25th address to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in which he cited the video six times and declared, “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam”?
6) Who called the deflection operation off, and when? Is it coincidental that that seemed to occur after the UNGA speech, which stands as the closing bookend to the video-narrative that the White House and, as others dropped out, Obama alone pressed for two full weeksafter the attack.
7) Meanwhile, why did the CIA and other intelligence agencies ignore a seemingly more significant video – Ayman al-Zawaheri’s video exhorting Libyans to take revenge for the U.S. killing of Libyan al Qaeda leader Yahya al Libi that was posted online on September 9 and September 10? Spokesmen such as George Little at Pentagon have explicitly stated there was no prior warning about Benghazi. Doesn’t a 9/11 anniversary video from the head of AQ exhorting Libyans to fight Americans count as a warning?
8) Did President Obama order the U.S. military not to come to the aid of Americans under attack on 11 September 2012? Mr. Obama told a local Colorado TV reporter that he made his priorities clear “the minute I found out what was happening.” He continued: “Number one, make sure that we are securing our personnel and doing whatever we need to.” Did Obama issue such a directive, written or oral? If so, was it carried out? If not, why did the president lie to the reporter?
9) “White House Counterterrorism Advisor John Brennan reportedly was aware that there was a relationship [between General David Petraeus and Paula Broadwell] as early as the summer of 2011.” Yet, myriad published reports indicate that only a small number of individuals in the FBI and Department of Justice, including Attorney General Eric Holder, were privy to the investigation into this affair. Which is it? And, either way, was the President actually kept in the dark until after the election?
10) The CIA’s Benghazi station was reportedly engaged in a covert operation aimed at helping an international effort to arm the so-called “Syrian opposition” by shipping weapons recovered from “liberated” Qaddafi-era caches. If, as the New York Times has reported, the bulk of the armaments being sent to the “rebels” in Syria by Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia are winding up in the hands of the most radical Islamist elements, some supplied by us are likely reaching al Qaeda operatives, as well. Has the Obama administration been secretly arming Syria’s opposition, including al Qaeda and/or other radical Islamists?

PETRAEUS MISTRESS SUGGESTS BENGHAZI ATTACK WAS AIMED AT SECRET CIA PRISON
On October 26th, 2012, Paula Broadwell, the now famed mistress of General Petraeus, addressed the University of Denver Alumni Symposium about the recent attacks on Benghazi during a question and answer session after her keynote address:
"The facts that came out today is that the ground forces there at the CIA annex, which is different from the consulate, were requesting reinforcements. They were requesting the – it's called the CINC’s In Extremis Force – a group of Delta Force operators, our very, most talented guys we have in the military. They could have come and reinforced the consulate and the CIA annex that were under attack. Now, I don't know if a lot of you have heard this but the CIA annex had actually taken a couple of Libyan militia members prisoner, and they think that the attack on the consulate was an effort to try get these prisoners back, so that’s still being vetted."
An extensive KleinOnline search of news media coverage of the Benghazi attacks could find no mention of prisoners being held at the CIA annex.
During the same university speech, Braodwell may have also divulged information that Petraeus knew “within 24 hours” of CIA annex’s request for reinforcements, reported Israel National News.
“The challenging thing for Gen. Petraeus,”she stated, “is that in his new position, he’s not allowed to communicate with the press. So he’s known all of this – they had correspondence with the CIA station chief in Libya, within 24 hours they kind of knew what was happening.”

Broadwell is an intelligence officer and Business Insider noted that in Michael D. Shear’s profile of Broadwell for The New York Times, he said she was “a model for a machine gun manufacturer.”
“It turns out that the company is called KRISS, a manufacturer of .45-caliber machine guns,” Business Insider writes. “We did a bit more digging and stumbled on a promotional video for KRISS which features Broadwell in her role as, according to her website, ‘female model/demonstrator.’”
Broadwell also gives commentary throughout the video, highlighting the importance of accurate, lightweight weaponry.

This intensely personal and emotional Ian Hunter composition is a tribute to Mick Ronson, one of the many artists Hunter has worked with in his long and illustrious career. Multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger and producer Ronson was born in Hull in 1946; his studio recordings included work as a session guitarist for Elton John and Michael Chapman. Ronson was recruited by David Bowie for his backing band The Spiders From Mars; he released three solo albums, and after Hunter left Mott The Hoople, the two teamed up as Hunter-Ronson.
Mick Ronson died from cancer of the liver on April 29, 1993, aged only 46.
Hunter ends the song with a few bars adapted from the Phil Spector composition "To Know Him Is To Love Him", as clearly he, and so many other people did. On April 29, 1994, Hunter was one of numerous big names who performed at the Mick Ronson Memorial Concert, Hammersmith. Hunter topped the bill at the second Mick Ronson Memorial Concert which was held at Hull on August 9, 1997 where he dedicated the song to Ronson's mother.

This was Hunter's first single after leaving Mott The Hoople. The extended version appears on the self-titled "Ian Hunter" album, which was released by CBS on March 28, 1975. The single was released April 4, entered the UK charts on May 3, and stayed there for ten weeks peaking at number 14; the B-side was "3,000 Miles From Here."
A number of artist have covered this song, including the heavy metal band Great White, who were nominated for a Grammy for it; Hunter was not entirely pleased. It was Great White's biggest hit, peaking at #5 in the US.
"Once Bitten Twice Shy" is an expression meaning that if you've been hurt, you are less likely to put yourself in that position again. In this song, Hunter sings to a girl who seems to take up with lots of musicians. He knows from past experience that he can't count on her.

Hunter started writing "Ships" when he was with Mott The Hoople, but it didn't appear on vinyl until 1979 when he recorded it for his solo album You're Never Alone With A Schizophrenic; the song has been described as a hymn-like ballad about his relationship with his father.
Barry Manilow's version was a #9 US hit in 1979. Hunter recalled to Mojo magazine: "That whole Manilow thing was quite amusing. That guy's no slouch when it comes to arranging. His dad had died. . . . It worked out fine for him."

It was not Petraeus, it was not Panetta, it was not Hillary, well, then, who else could it be?
Since it is obvious who failed to rescue the Ambassador those who got in the way had to go.
In an unusual move, the Navy replaced an admiral commanding an aircraft carrier strike group while it is deployed to the Middle East. On October 27th, Rear Adm. Charles M. Gaouette, the commander of the USS John C. Stennis strike group, was returned to the United States for temporary reassignment. It involved allegations of “inappropriate leadership judgment” and was not related to personal conduct.
Thereafter, on the 29th of October, U.S. military officials denied claims from a Washington Times blog that Gen. Carter Ham, former head of U.S. Africa command, may have been fired due to an intent to disobey defense secretary Leon Panetta's order to "stand down" while the Sept. 11 attacks in Benghazi were underway.
Petraeus was the third to go, not including General Stanley McChrystal who was only the second commanding general to be relieved of command during an active military campaign since World War II. Interestingly, McChrystal also had given a writer unprecedented access to their personal thoughts, as had Petraeus.
In an article written by freelance journalist Michael Hastings, "The Runaway General", appearing in issue no. 1108/1109 of Rolling Stone magazine (July 8–22, 2010), General Stanley McChrystal was critical of civilian authorities and subsequently resigned.

Why Did Obama Compromise Security?
The FBI investigation began last spring but right after the election Petraeus resigned, raising questions about the timing. Petraeus was being investigated while he was stationed in Afghanistan and even before he was appointed head of the CIA. At some point after Petraeus was sworn in as CIA director on Sept. 6, 2011, the woman broke up with him. However, Petraeus continued to pursue her. In any case, an affair that had actually ended as long ago as fourteen months previously so profoundly shook Petraeus that three days after a contentious election he decided to resign for "personal reasons." If you swallow that bitter pill I have swamp land in Florida to sell you.
High-level Justice Department officials knew by late summer of an ongoing investigation involving Petraeus, a source said.
Initial reports said the relationship ended before Petraeus took over the CIA in September 2011, but yesterday, ABC News and The Wall Street Journal said the affair actually began shortly after he was sworn in and ended only a few months ago. I would be suspect of the later developments because they fit the Obama spin better and they are not the initial story.
Furthermore, Petraeus was poised to testify about the Benghazi cover-up but now it will be delayed. However, if Obama knew about the affair before the election, why did Obama compromise security? The relationship that Petraeus had with his lover is a breach of top secret security requirements and could have compromised Petraeus. Still, the White House held off on asking for Petraeus’ resignation until after the election. Obama's reasoning is based on the possibility that the scandal would harm his re-election chances.
There is speculation that an anonymous letter on July 13, 2012 to the N.Y. Times is related to the affair.

(This might seem hyperbolic, but it is not an exaggeration.) I have met with him on several occasions, and he has been gracious. (I doubt if he is aware of my knowledge.) I have watched the affair intensify over the last year, and I have also benefited from his generosity. He is engaged in work that I am passionate about and is absolutely the right person for the job. I strongly feel that exposing the affair will create a major distraction that would adversely impact the success of an important effort. My issue: Should I acknowledge this affair and finally force closure? Should I suffer in silence for the next year or two for a project I feel must succeed? Should I be “true to my heart” and walk away from the entire miserable situation and put the episode behind me? NAME WITHHELD"

Are slavery-themed math questions going too far crossing disciplines? Why or why not?
A Georgia teacher involved in assigning third graders slavery-themed math homework has quit, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. The unidentified teacher resigned during a human resources investigation into the assignment handed out.
It‘s not the first time there’s been controversy over a Georgia public school assignment: In September, a father complained after his middle school daughter was sent home with an assignment that he said promoted Islamic Shariah law.
