Notes:
I received this tape in a trade many years ago with Sven Gusevik in Norway. I believe he received his copy from Dale Griffin (Mott's drummer), so this is a low-generation source (possibly as low as third generation).
It is only part of the show, but it is the best-sounding Ronson-era Mott recording.
Sound quality is quite good for a 1974 audience recording. The sound is well balanced, and audience noise rarely intrudes. It was bootlegged in the late 90's as "European Ending", but the quality here is much better.
Capture was using a Terratec DMX 6Fire sound card, CoolEdit 2000 at 44.1/32 bits prior to normalisation and 44.1/16 bits. No other EQ or denoising has been attempted.

Total Time ::: 48:29

NOTES ::: Considering the volume these guys likely played at, an EXCELLENT audience tape for the time period, check the samples & get ready to ROCK. Clear, warm & well recorded, with great instrument & vocal balance. There is some volume fluctuation & tape degradation in places, but hey it's over 40 years old! If you can dig it, likely you are too!
::: * Tourlists say "Schorndorf TV Hall, Stuttgart", but I'll go with the taper. Schorndorf is only 26 kilometers from Stuttgart. The taper was meticulous his labeling & it usually matched other circulating info. If you know differently, speak up... It came as Künkelinshalle but on the net I only see Barbara-Künkelin-Halle, a mystery for another researcher...

Recording Information ::: unknown equipment -> master audience tape -> 1st generation Maxell XLII-90 cassette, Dolby B on

Playback 2011-07-29 ::: 1st generation Maxell XLII-90 cassette on Nakamichi BX-300 cassette deck, Dolby B on, azimuth & pitch adjusted, heads cleaned & demagnatized -> Tascam CD-RW900SL pro CD recorder -> CD-RW -> computer -> EAC secure -> wav file(s) -> Audacity (for fades and/or glitch repair, volume adjustments, no EQ) -> CD Wave for track splits -> Trader's Little Helper -> various ears around the world.

Line-up ::: Ian Hunter - piano, vocals // Mick Ralphs - guitar, vocals // Overend Watts - bass // Verden Allen - organ // Buffin - drums

Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.

Thanks to the original taper! This guy made some monster audience recordings of bands that just weren't taped often enough, at a time when it was neither easy nor common. Mucho gracias.

Corrections welcome. If the pitch is still incorrect, email me & maybe I can fix it. I use a pitch pipe, check 3-4 songs & when in doubt compare 1-2 songs on a time-appropriate album, but sometimes I'm off. I've learned a lot since this transfer & likely would do it differently now, so maybe someday I can re-run it. but it is more than fine the way it is.

Cool Sonics Series CSS-012 ::: This one's for Ena Karen Meredith Swansea Whisnant, the original Rock & Roll Queen. Long may your red locks rock. Along with Fillmore West July 1970 & Stockholm, one of my favorite live Mott gigs. If you did the early 1970s concert trips, this recording will really take you back. If the neighbors can't see thru yer windows & yer wife & kids are outta the house, crank it up, play some air guitar, shake yer hair if you still got any & boogie on down. As much as I love "All The Young Dudes", I would be hard pressed to say it got better than this vintage. Ballads, heavy rock & revolution. Get it now before Angel Air charges you a brickwalled pound for it without telling you it's not album quality! More recordings on the way. Til Sept. 2011, I suffered from SERIOUSLY slow internet access & am fixing my ratio as fast as I can, now that I am able. Enjoy, share, give, spread peace.

Since we're gettin' older & reminiscin' is in vogue... Kudos to: Zongo for life support & Lochner for microphones & much more. A bow to Fast Freddie for running Video Dick's Record Emporium with the bathroom office full of tape decks. Thanks to Hanwaker (few among us can keep his pace) for over 30 years of trading & friendship. Mountains of gratitude to Davmar, D.White, Sanchez, Elliot, The Florida Kid, Kloiber, Zingg, JTW, Bershaw, Boston Gold, Weeks, Dixon, Moore, Gough (G.-if you read this, get in touch!) & SO many more for all that collecting & sharing... Royal thanks to The Man In The Palace, Doc Tinker, Brinkhoffs, Barely Eatin', Reel Master Gaule, Dean Parrish & all those traders who housed & fed me through my music acquisition & travel years. Steppin' back to the roots - hats off to Brother Kent, Uncle Jake, Ena Whisnant (& her neighbor Frank) & his honor Ptomaine Thomas. Glasses raised to Byron for musical horizon expansion & much obliged to J & Thurston for keepin' my concert fires burnin' since my continental shift. Thanks to the Mods for keepin' DIME alive.

Here's an audience recording of a 40 minute set from Mott The Hoople at the Filmore East.
The tape that's been in circulation sounds too fast, so I've adjusted the pitch for this.
The sound quality is adequate and fairly typical of an audience recording from 1970. I'll
try and get a sample up.

This one is great, in my honest opinion.
So Its either an upgrade or his is downgraded or an early or late show.
Either way - they asked me to upload mine.

Some drop outs and loud clicks have also
been repaired - as best as possible.
No noise reduction has been used.
My copy is also tracked slightly differently
and has some low track volume enhancements done to it.

This show was at the 9:30 Club in its original location on F Street NW, not where the current club is located. Recorded from somewhere in the mass of bodies standing on the floor. A good enthusiastic SRO crowd on this night. I’m not sure what happened that made me lose most of Once Bitten and I don’t remember if there were any other songs lost during the glitch. The sound on this recording is OK but not great, but hearing anything by Ian with Rono playing is worth having IMO. This one is new to circulation here on Dime.

Taping glitch caused loss of most of Once Bitten Twice Shy.

Tape fade (from my original cassette transfer) after Big Time.

BBC in Concert

Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson

I recorded this from BBC Radio 1 FM on 9th August 1980.

Although Tommy Vance states "recorded earlier this year" I think it was actually recorded at the Hammersmith Odeon, London UK on 22 Nov 1979

This was just after the "Welcome to the Club" recordings in Los Angeles.

This recording is different to that one, and also very different to the 1989 BBC in Concert

Bad problems with the azimuth on the original cassette. I remember the capstain wheel thing fell off shortly after recording this, and that obviously caused problems with the tape not having a constant angle to the record head, so the treble comes and goes.

The first song is the worse, but it is there throughout.

I have tried to clean up the sound so that it is more listenable to my ears.

The actual set and when performed is not clear but another source states the set list is as follows; however, the order is most likely not the running order of songs.
One Bitten Twice Shy
Laugh At Me

One nite in June 1979, out in Hollywood, we got wind that Steve Hackett Tickets we going on sale at the Roxy in the morning. We waited out all night and when the box office opened the told us "the shows were canceled" (he played oct-1980)
But if we wanted we could buy tickets for Ian Hunter that was not annouced yet! So that is where this tape came from. This may be for completists only, but it is a very High energy show, and the only recording I have heard of the band doing "Laugh At Me" a Sonny Bono song.

a good Rioja red wine.Great moment in my life !!! Enjoy the

NOTES: Ian Hunter opening set for Jethro Tull. I have to be honest, I knew next to nothing about Ian Hunter before this show. I had heard the name Ian Hunter and Mott The Hoople, but that's it. Jethro Tull was the big draw for me. I found that I was familiar with a couple of Ian Hunter's tunes from the radio, and very much enjoyed the rest of the songs, including the stuff he said was from the "new album." I actually liked Ian Hunter more than Jethro Tull! At times people are yelling "Happy Birthday" to Ian Hunter (his birthday was the day before the show I later found out). Some minor crowd disturbance during one of the quieter passages in Sweet Jane, but not too bad.

Hodge podge of video files I've had since the show. Thought I'd put them out there . Not great quality (crap camera) but someone might enjoy . Footage starts off from stage front and by the end of show I'm at stage left and caught some footage of Joe Elliot of Def Leppard fame and huge MOTT fan helping out on all the young dudes.

What a night! I saw Ian at this pub a few years back and my what a change.
While that show was great THIS show was smokin'!!! His band is extremely tight and Ian's
voice was very strong. great mix of old & new ..in fact the Rant material now feels like
fan faves like the older stuff. ...and the crowd knew & loved the great new songs from
the new cd Shrunken Heads. I was positioned about 8 feet from the stage dead center.
Amazing stereo separation as the lead guitarist is heard strong on the left side, but barely audible on the
right...while the rest of the band & vocals are center. The CA's hit another homerun. check out the samples.

AS Always...Share and ENJOY!

BTW...track 10 is me crossing the street to my car...I left it on for the cool stereo effects of cars whizzing by.

This is the second show of Ian in Barcelona. The band played before
in 2004.Ian was interviwed on Catalunya Radio by Jordi Tardà who
invited Ian's at his program "Tarda Tardà", a rock magazine who is on
the air every Saturday since 1985.

The interview was very nice and many people stay out side of the
radio following the interview through the outdoors windows of the studio.

Ian signed lot of records and take lot of pics with many people before
go to the venue for the soundcheck.

Comments:

Nice show from Ian's 2001 tour in support of his excellent RANT album. I went to two shows on this tour and managed to miss the first 15-20 minutes of both shows. Luckily I knew of other tapers at each show and was able to get the missing tracks to add to my recordings of those nights.

This show also has filler added from FM radio of Ian playing acoustic versions of two songs on the Howard Stern show dated as "10/14/01". I think this filler was taped on cassette by Freddie G but I can't recall for sure. Quality of the FM cassette is not very good (sounds too fast & just lousy in general to my ears, especially when Howard sings!) but the sources for the Allentown show both sound fine.

Thanks to Bob T. for the first 5 tracks of this show & Freddie G. for making the artwork.

Ian Hunter & Band - November 10, 1997 - Radio HO*T FM, 9sqm session, Hof, Germany
**ROUGH MIX, PRE-FM, DAT-master, MWM 0015**

Short story:

Being fans of Mott The Hoople and Ian Hunter since the late 60ies, Joe and Otto heard
that Ian was touring with a new band to promote his album "The Artful Dodger". They
contacted his Management and his Tourmanager to play a session...nobody believed that
this would ever happen. But sometimes miracles occur: they got a confirmation, and a
few weeks later Mr. Hunter in person, alive and well, walked into the studio.

And if you ask if we had fun - yes! Nice musicians, great songs, Ian at his best!

And if you ask if it was sad - yes! Talking about the late Mick Ronson...

And if you ask if Ian ever takes off his sunglasses - NO.
Check the photos of this session included in a folder...

Performed shortly after the release of "You're Never Alone With A Schizophrenic", the band had been playing together for "exactly 11 days." The band was Bruce Springsteen's backing band.

The beginning of the tape had some chatter from "Claire," the WLIR on-air DJ, but it was so unclear it was removed, until she introduces Dennis McNamara, who introduces the band.

The vocals are hard to make out, possibly because they are in the same frequency range as the guitar, which was very loud. The whole band around 1-2kHz is saturated and squashed and very loud. I use the L3 Multimaximizer to prevent it from being made any louder during mastering. It takes a little edge off the guitars and makes the recording less headachy.

Why Did Obama Lie About Bin Laden Killing?

Obama lied about the date of the alleged Osama Bin Laden killing, according to recently released Department of Defense emails. As a result of a Freedom of Information Act request for Bin Laden’s killing and burial related documents, evidence reveals that the mission to allegedly “kill Osama” occurred April 28, 2011 or earlier, not May 1, 2011, as Obama claimed. According to a live speech (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3V0ISgosTlQ) and alternate link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-N3dJvhgPg) given to the country late on the night of May 1, 2011, Obama stated “Today at my direction the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound (where Osama allegedly was) in Abbottabad, Pakistan. A small team of Americans carried out the operation with extraordinary courage and capability. No Americans were harmed. They took care to avoid civilian casualties. After a fire fight they killed Osama Bin Laden and took custody of his body.”

Osama Bin Laden Burial Department of Defense Emails

In one of the emails dated April 29, 2011, 4:58 AM, Rear Admiral (Lower Half) Samuel Perez asks an unidentified email sender (Redacted) regarding the “burial”: “Do I need any special religious/ceremonial preparations?” Email strings that were released concerning the alleged burial of Osama go back to April 28. This means that “Osama” (or possibly someone else) was killed April 28, 2011 or earlier.

Obama continued to lie to the American people two other times in his speech that Osama was killed that day – May 1, 2011.

At 6.13 minutes, Obama stated “Tonight I called President Zardari and my team has also spoken with their Pakistani counterparts. They agree that this is a good and historic day for both of our nations,” stated Obama.

At 8.37 “Today’s achievement is a testament to the greatness of our country,” stated Obama.

All The Way From Memphia

Ripped from YouTube video during All The Way From Memphis

The keyboard cut out, Ian wasn't sure what happened, perhaps something simple like a loose connection in a wire or Ian may have accidently hit a button or switch on the electronic keyboard and the instrument cut out. In any case, Dennis ran from the other side of the stage, tried to fix it or the sound crew found out what happened and the sound returned. Once Dennis tapped on the keys the sound returned. Hunter said: "It's out. . . . I must have touched something." Ian sort of playfully pushed Dennis away and The Rant Band picked up right where they left off. It was a playful yet professional moment during a great set at a fabulous venue.

Update: December 2012, Horse's Mouth

Dan Mcallister: ‘Kudos to Dennis for his quick help at the Paradise.’ "Yeah – I must have hit something by mistake."
