Viral MOOC video, Everyday Economics, Don Boudreaux

Chronicle of Higher Education http://chronicle.com/blogs/wiredcampus/online-upstarts-goal-mooc-lectures-that-go-viral/53539

In this series, Professor Don Boudreaux explores the question economists have been asking since the era of Adam Smith -- what creates wealth? On a timeline of human history, the recent rise in standards of living resembles a hockey stick -- flatlining for all of human history and then skyrocketing in just the last few centuries. Without specialization and trade, our ancient ancestors only consumed what they could make themselves. How can specialization and trade help explain the astonishing growth of productivity and output in such a short amount of time—after millennia of famine, low life expectancy, and incurable disease?

Cop: Obama "Decimated" the Constitution, No Longer Enforeceable

A police officer in Helmetta, New Jersey, told a citizen that because Obama has “decimated” the Constitution, he no longer has to comply with the founding document. The incident began as resident Steve Wronko brought a camera inside a municipal building while “investigating” alleged problems with the Helmetta Animal Shelter. A police officer, identified as Richard Recine, eventually stopped Wronko and demanded to know who he was and what he was doing filming in the building.

Ian Hunter and the Rant Band, Live in the UK 2010

Ian Hunter and the Rant Band Live in the UK 2010 In 2010 Ian Hunter and The Rant Band embarked upon an UK tour, accompanied by a string quartet. The shows were recorded professionally using a 32 track mobile, and the songs are completely live with no overdubs or fixes. The finished CD was mixed and mastered by Peter Moshay (Shrunken Heads, Man Overboard and When I’m President). The track listing mixes fan favourites from the Mott era – Seadiver, Waterlow, All The Young Dudes – with songs from throughout Ian’s solo career – Irene Wilde, Michael Picasso, Wash Us Away, Flowers. Ian has decided to release these recordings himself, eschewing the traditional record company process. Both he and Trudi have been involved in every aspect of putting this CD together, from track and running order selection, through to artwork and mixing / mastering. They have crammed the maximum music possible onto a single cd, running as it does to 75 minutes. Hunterphiles who have had a sneak preview of the CD describe it as stunning … you can judge for yourselves by clicking the links on the front page for 30 second previews. The CD will be for sale through the normal channels (i.e. Amazon and iTunes) later in the year, but we are offering you the chance to purchase in advance from Ian Hunter directly, as more of the proceeds from each sale will end up with him. The advance CD will be released through Ian Hunter on the 1st September, but anyone who pre-orders the CD will receive an immediate hi-res download of the complete album (plus artwork), ahead of the physical CD.

The Man With the Golden Guitar

Gary Kemp marks the 20th anniversary of the death of his guitar hero Mick Ronson with a celebration of his career. With a stellar guest list of musicians and fellow Ronno fans including Chrissie Hynde, Tony Visconti, Ian Hunter, Trevor Bolder and Woody Woodmansey, Gary explains why Mick is such an important figure in British rock n roll, highlighting the important contribution Mick made to some of the most acclaimed albums in rock history and why his talent deserves to be celebrated. Mick rose to fame as lead guitarist and music arranger on David Bowie's albums, The Man Who Sold The World, Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane and Pin Ups. Through his work with Bowie, Mick came to the attention of and subsequently worked with some of the biggest names in rock. Mick co-produced Lou Reed's Transformer album, enjoyed a stint with Mott the Hoople and then became a long-time collaborator with Mott's former leader Ian Hunter. Mick was also a member of Bob Dylan's 'Rolling Thunder Revue' live band, and can be seen both on and off-stage in the film of the tour. He also made a connection with Roger McGuinn during this time, which led to his producing and contributing guitar and arrangements to McGuinn's 1976 solo album Cardiff Rose. Roger Daltrey employed Ronson's guitar on his 1977 solo release One of the Boys, and in 1979 Ronson and Hunter produced and played on the Ellen Foley debut album, Night Out, with 'We Belong To The Night' and the hit single 'What's a Matter Baby'. In 1982, Ronson worked with John Mellencamp on his American Fool album, and in particular the song 'Jack & Diane'. In 1992 Mick produced Morrissey's album, Your Arsenal. The same year, Ronno's final live performance was at The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert.  http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04bg8c1

Chicago Imam Calls for Jihad against Israel Cites Quran Chapter and Verse

http://youtu.be/ziUskpA-2Mc

The Friday sermon delivered by Sheik Mohamed Elimam at the Chicago Islamic Center on July 18-25, 2014.

http://www.memri.org/clip/en/0/0/0/0/0/0/4388.htm

Mohamed Elimam: Oh, those of you who want to wage Jihad for the sake of Allah, Palestine is calling you and Gaza is crying out for your help. If you are true believers, real mujahideen, hasten to Palestine. However, if you are collaborators with those who give you weapons and money, then keep indulging yourselves with this money of yours. […] Where are the Muslim rulers? Where are all those deadbeat regimes? Where are all those stray [Jihadi] groups? Return to the battle of Jihad in Palestine. Jerusalem is calling you. The children of Gaza are crying for your help. I say to all the honorable mujahideen, to any believer who has ever waged Jihad for the sake of Allah, and to every child who was killed for the sake of Islam… Let the whole world know that the Zionist enemy is not fighting a well-armed army. Rather, it is fighting a defenseless people. It is killing children, and destroying homes. This is how they behaved towards the prophets of Allah as well. […] July 25, 2014 This enemy was planted in the midst of the Arab nation – and they chose Jerusalem, Palestine, the most important area – in order to be a thorn in the side of the Arab and Islamic nations. May Allah pull this thorn out, and stick it down their [Western] throats. May they be sent back to their countries in shame and disgrace, Allah willing. […] Know that “Paradise lies beneath the shade of the swords.” Paradise belongs to you, oh martyrs, oh fighters, oh mujahideen, in our beloved Gaza and wounded Palestine. Stand fast in the face of this enemy.[…] “Paradise lies beneath the shade of the swords” is a statement attributed to Muhammad in the Hadith (Bukhari 4.52.73). There is a difference between Jews and Zionist Israelis. Global Zionism is unadulterated evil besetting all people. The [Zionists] hide behind religion, but religion has nothing to do with them. They have no religion, no morals, and no humanity. […] [The Koran says:] “Prepare for them what force and steeds of war you can, to strike fear in the hearts of the enemy of Allah and of your own, and others besides them, whom you do not know, but Allah knows.” All the Arabs have abandoned our brothers in Palestine, and the Muslims are oblivious to them, but Allah supports them. They have prepared for battle. Even if the resistance cannot match [Israel] in numbers and equipment, it does in spirit and steadfastness, as mothers sacrifice their sons and wives sacrifice their husbands for the sake of Allah.

Islamist Hatred in Miami Against Jews

http://youtu.be/qt0Y4f_jU9U “The martyr is God’s love.” This encourages one to die while committing Jihad — it is a celebration of terror attacks including suicide bombings. “Khaybar, Khaybar Oh, Jew. Muhammad’s army will return.” This refers to a seventh-century massacre in which Muhammad’s army attacked the Jewish community of Khaybar in the Arabian Peninsula. The Jewish males who surrendered were beheaded; Muhammad and his soldiers then divided the women, children, and property. Islamists today routinely invoke this battle as a rallying cry to attack Jews. In English, they yelled: “We are Hamas!” openly confirming support for a group officially designated a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union, Japan, Jordan, and Egypt. “We are Jihad!” thereby calling for holy war. “Hamas kicked your ass.” That makes for an interesting contradiction: While claiming Gazans are being massacred, the group also claims to have defeated the Israel Defense Forces. Which is it? Eventually, an Israel supporter calls out, “We’re in America, that’s where we are… we’re not Gaza over here,” a self-proclaimed Hamas fan screams back in Hebrew with an Arabic accent, “Son of a bitch” and “Go to Hell!” along with an obscene arm gesture.
