GM's China sales pass US for first time in history
General Motors Co. sold more cars and trucks in China last year than it did in the U.S., for the first time in the company's 102-year history. Toyota is still the world's largest auto maker. GM and Toyota tied for the global sales lead in 2007, ending GM's 76-year string of dominance. Toyota took the title in 2008 and has held it ever since.

Jews and Muslims in America, Sylviane Anna Diouf, Servants of Allah: African Muslims Enslaved in the Americas
Who would deny the presence of Muslims, both as traders and as slaves? However, this research does not state that the presence of Muslims in America means that somehow Muslims have always had a founding presence in America. They were slaves. In fact, one section of Diouf's book is "Resistance, Revolts, and Returns to Africa," indicating the significant non-participation of Muslims in American life.
On the other hand, in 1654, twenty four unwelcome Jews arrived in Peter Stuyvesant's Dutch colony in New Amsterdam, and were eventually allowed to remain (p. 161, The Course of Modern Jewish History, Howard M. Sachar). The presence of a Jewish community pre-dated the founding of America but the claim that somehow Muslim presence means the existence of a Muslim community, or that Muslims are part and parcel of Revolutionary America is simply a fairy tale. Thereafter, both in New England and in the South a Jewish community existed, to the extent that Sachar can state: "On the eve of the Revolution, the American Jewish community was comparatively secure" (p. 162).
To wit, there is a credible scholarly account for one 19th Century figure.

As CBN News reported earlier this year, the Harvard Center received a $20 million donation from Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal in 2005. Georgetown University -- another title VI recipient--also received $20 million from the Prince that same year.
It's through these Title VI university centers -- all of them government-sanctioned and taxpayer supported--that Saudi-funded materials find their way into K-12 classrooms.

Yang sees Lang Lang choosing this tune as an expression of the deeply anti-American propaganda that is constant in China.
“This deeply anti-American chauvinism has been fanned by the CCP for years; Lang Lang is expressing the feelings of this generation of angry young people,” Yang said.
A well-known example of such feelings was seen on Sept. 11, 2001, when Chinese chat rooms were filled with young people celebrating this act of terror as an American defeat.

When Nixon visited China, a photo was taken of him getting off the plane to greet Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai. Nixon has a big smile and extends his hand out to Zhou. Zhou stands with a rigid face and holds his hand close to his body.
The photo was widely used in all of the Chinese media to help support the idea that Nixon’s visit was a victory for China. Chinese schoolchildren were told, “See how long Nixon’s arm is stretched out? That shows the United States is reaching out to us.”

Council on Foreign Relations Laughs and Lies at People
A recording of a recent Council On Foreign Relations symposium reveals attendees laughing while discussing ways to create panic and force the public to take the swine flu vaccine. There has been mass resistance that has arisen due to questions over it’s safety.
The recording dates from October 16 when the CFR held a Symposium in New York entitled Pandemic Influenza: Science, Economics, and Foreign Policy. The transcript reveals that Lone Simonsen, Research Professor and Research Director at the Department of Global Health, George Washington University, suggests creating an artificial scarcity in order to ramp up demand for the vaccine.
“I think what would work better would be to say that there was a shortage and people tend to buy more of something that’s in demand. (Laughter.) We saw that — there was one season where, really, people lined up all night to get a flu shot.”
Simonsen states the point, much to the amusement of the other attendees at the symposium.

Secretary of Education States Education Dummied Down to Elect Politicians
Secretary of Education Arne Duncan charged politicians with “dummy-ing down” state education standards under the No Child Left Behind Act to increase their chances of being re-elected.
“Historically in our country, I think particularly under the current law, No Child Left Behind, lots of states dummied down standards,” said Duncan at the National Action Network’s Martin Luther King, Jr. day prayer breakfast on Monday. “They reduced standards. Why? Wasn’t good for children; wasn’t good for education; wasn’t good for the country -- was good for politicians.”
“It made politicians look good,” he said. “You could dummy down your standards and tell the press and tell the public – if you could tell the public that more students in your state were quote/unquote meeting state standards, that helped you get re-elected. But it did a great disservice to young people.”

In a candid moment while running for president, Obama told the editorial board of the San Francisco Chronicle, “under my plan…electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.” Last week, the Obama administration moved to make that a reality, using its rule by executive fiat to punish the coal industry. The action comes as Obama is halting offshore oil drilling and threatening one state alone with millions of dollars in lost revenue. His most recent action was “unprecedented,” could kill jobs during a recession, and comes as heating oil and gasoline prices are rising.
Obama’s latest environmentalist imbroglio is his declaration of war on the coal industry. Last week, the EPA revoked the mining permit of Arch Coal’s Spruce No. 1 Mine in Logan County, West Virginia. The EPA granted the permit in 2007. Since then, Arch Coal has complied with all of the agency’s terms and made millions of dollars of investments in the hard-hit Appalachian state.
The EPA reversed itself last week, revoking its validly granted permit and calling into question whether it would honor any of its prior obligations. Its pretext was the company’s use of mountaintop removal mining, which it called “destructive and unsustainable. However, it was known the mine would use this procedure when the EPA granted the permit four years ago.
The mine would have employed 250 people and harvested more than 40 million tons of coal, over 15 years.
West Virginia’s lawmakers are rightly incensed. Newly elected Democratic Senator Joe Manchin’s statement read in part: “According to the EPA, it doesn’t matter if you did everything right, if you followed all of the rules. Why? They just change the rules.”
Democratic Senator Jay Rockefeller told President Obama in a letter that his action “needlessly throws other permits into a sea of uncertainty at a time of great economic distress.”
Industry leaders echoed his concern. “Every road project, construction project or mine site that has received valid CWA 404 permits in the past is now in jeopardy of having that permit vetoed or revoked,” said Bryan Brown, executive director of the Foundation for American Coal Energy. The crippling handicap of uncertainty harms our economy, undermines confidence in the government, and keeps industry executives from making additional investments in energy exploration.

In observance of Martin Luther King Day, pro-lifers are focusing in part on a major civil rights issue.
Joseph Parker, pastor of two African-Methodist-Episcopal churches in Mississippi, says today's culture often overlooks the critical questions and issues related to life and the unborn. Instead, he says, people tend to avoid pushing their moral views on others or agree that it is up to a woman to decide what she should do with her body.
"Tragically, this kind of argument has become just a smokescreen that has kept too many from really seeing the true issue at hand," Parker laments. "The false claim has been that the abortion issue is about women's rights and reproductive freedom, but this is simply marketing hype and lies. In reality, it was racism and eugenics that drove the legalization of abortion."

More than 30 percent of abortions that take place in the U.S. involve the killing of black babies -- a truth clearly portrayed in a documentary called Maafa 21, which was produced by Life Dynamics. A group of black pastors will show that film today at its "Festival for Life" at Wesley Biblical Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi.
"One of the great needs in our society is to recognize that there's a huge need for us to take a stand for the civil rights of the unborn child [and] that the civil rights of the unborn need to be respected and protected," Parker concludes.
He goes on to point out that Dr. Alveda King, the niece of Martin Luther King, Jr., describes standing up for the rights of the unborn as one of the most serious civil rights issues of our time. The Mississippi pastor recently spoke at a rally in Jackson, where he voiced his agreement with that statement.

Remarkably, nearly half of today's national debt was run up in just the past six years. It soared from $7.6 trillion in January 2005 as President George W. Bush began his second term to $10.6 trillion the day Obama was inaugurated and to $14.02 trillion now. The period has seen two major wars and the deepest economic downturn since the 1930s.
In three years the U.S. increased its debt $4 trillion; then, in two years, Obama increased the debt another $4 trillion.
Here's what then-Sen. Barack Obama said on the Senate floor in 2006: "The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. government can't pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance the government's reckless fiscal policies."
At that time, not a single Senate Democrat voted to raise the limit, opposition that's now complicating White House efforts to rally bipartisan support for a higher ceiling.

Airborne Laser to Attempt Another Missile Shoot-Down
February 11 2010. A modified Boeing 747-400F with more than 7 tons of optics up front and a megawatt-class laser in back destroyed a liquid-fueled ballistic missile target while both were in flight. The Missile Defense Agency's Airborne Laser TestBed reportedly carries a megawatt-class chemical oxygen iodine laser that's coupled with precise pointing and atmospheric correction equipment. And it has now proven capable of knocking a ballistic missile out of the sky.
The system is the result of a cooperative effort led by Boeing, in partnership with Northrop Grumman (which supplies the laser) and Lockheed Martin (which is developing the fire control system). The aim is to deter enemy missile attacks by disabling the attacking missiles while they are in the boost phase. That means hitting a target capable of 4,000 miles per hour with a beam of light traveling somewhere close to 670 million miles per hour.
The U.S. Missile Defense Agency hopes similar devices will one day be able to track and attack multiple targets, at a range of hundreds of kilometers, at at a lower cost than current technologies.
But For now, the price of the program is a problem. Defense Secretary Robert Gates canceled what had been an order for a second airborne laser system. The original, will continue to participate in experiments.
Third High Level Official Killed
The third high level official, and an attempt on a Congresswoman as well, has died under strange circumstances. Hill aide, dead in burning car.
The sport-utility vehicle was heavily damaged by fire in the garage of the couple's Capitol Hill home. The cause of her death is uncertain. She was found dead shortly before 5 a.m. in a burning BMW, the back end of which was partly out of the garage, as if the vehicle had been entering or leaving when the fire started, authorities said. Authorities said her death appears to have resulted from a low-speed crash, an unknown medical condition, the fire, or some combination of the three. Neighbors called for help about 4:50 a.m. after they saw flames spewing from the garage at the rear of the house. He said firefighters found a burning vehicle facing into the garage with a dead body in it. A source familiar with the incident, speaking on the condition of anonymity because it is still under investigation, said the SUV was "about seven-eighths of the way" into the garage and was stopped "at a weird angle." He said the vehicle was heavily damaged by fire, but said he could not discuss the condition of the body.
The deceased was the wife of Daniel A. Turton, 43, the White House's deputy director of legislative affairs for the U.S. House. As such, he is President Obama's point man on legislation moving through the House.
She was a lobbyist for North Carolina-based Progress Energy, which announced a merger Monday with Duke Energy.
A lobbyist for an energy company being acquired by Duke Energy, one of the worst of the Big Oil crowd, is married to someone in charge of pushing legislation through Congress for Obama. Aren't there conflict of interest laws? Who's to say that he's not pushing Duke's favored bills more than others?
