U.S. Marines participate in a practice raid on Flushing Meadows Park with a CH-46 helicopter to demonstrate for civilians the tactics the U.S. Marine Corps uses while raiding an area in enemy territory, 25 May 25 2009. The Staten Island Real-Time News reported “mock raids to provide civilians a feel for how soldiers operate in battle.”
As the numbers and presence of combat troops increases, the "mock raids” provide a sense of events to come and to get people acclimated to the presence of uniformed and armed soldiers in their midst. As Israel has learned, the drilling of the military is essential to keep order and to prepare citizens.
