The 1979 song "The Guns of Brixton" by The Clash deals with law enforcement violence in Brixton. Written by Paul Simonon, who grew up in Brixton, it had a reggae influence and showed the reggae roots of both Brixton and Paul Simonon's musical background.
Paul Simonon the bass player, and Mick Jones, guitar, for The Clash are both from Brixton.
The Clash version is based on Jimmy Cliff's, - "Guns of Brixton," he also included "Brixton Version" on his Sacred Fire, EP.
Max Wall, comedian and music hall performer, was born in Brixton and he was on the Rock 'n' Roll Circus tour with former lead singer of Mott The Hoople, Ian Hunter.
