The images and the sentiment of the president’s five-hour trip to Delaware were intended by the White House to convey to the nation that Mr. Obama was not making his Afghanistan decision lightly or in haste.
The New York Times stated that the Obama appearance was a photo op. Thereafter, the quote from the New York Times changed to cast a different spin on the story:
The image of the commander in chief standing on a darkened tarmac, offering a salute to one of the soldiers, highlighted the poignancy of a decision he is facing.
Along these lines, in fact, seventeen of the eighteen families refused the photo op. Only one family agreed that Obama could be photographed with their family member.
The change is one noted in 1984 where lies become truth and the truth is a lie.
