Common Core on PCN

The Corbett Administration has delayed submitting Common Core academic standards, which were initially scheduled to be implemented on July 1st. This comes at a time when critics fear the standards would impede upon local control, while proponents say the standards give value to a high school diploma and help to ensure that students are prepared to join the workforce. We’ll be joined by Peg Luksik, of Pennsylvanians Against Common Core, and David Patti, President and CEO of the PA Business Council.

David Patti of the PA Business Council (PBC) accepted $262,391 from the Gates Foundation to promote Common Core.

The discussion was aired live.

Dr. Luksik wrote a commentary on the politics behind Governor Corbett’s announced delay of implementation: “Playing Politics” - In May, the Corbett administration announced that they would delay submitting the Chapter 4 regulations implementing the latest version of Common Core…Many of those opposed to Common Core hailed that announcement as a victory. It was not. It was a political maneuver.
